Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Handsome Jefferson American Elm (Ulmus americana 'Jefferson') was cloned from an impervious specimen found standing proudly on the Washington Mall. It will serve your family just as faithfully.

This mature tree is instantly recognizable, with a broad vase-shaped canopy, sturdy trunk and well-structured branches. Even the finely serrated leaves with prominent veins arranged symmetrically from the midrib bring back memories.

No wonder Elm was such a popular street tree. Jefferson will become a beloved addition to your landscape, whether you use it as a single specimen shade tree or add to a mixed street planting.

The limbs are held in a gracious, open vase that rises up, then arches out. Lustrous dark green foliage casts delightful shade all season.

As nights grow cool, the textured foliage takes on a golden glow. There is perhaps no more magnificent sight than an American Elm dressed for autumn.

Elms are back! Don't miss out on these special trees. Rest assured with this carefully chosen, disease-resistant variety.

We're thrilled to offer this charming and refined selection from the Washington Mall for use at your residence or commercial property. Get ready for the compliments.

Order your Jefferson American Elm from our tree experts at Nature Hills today. Relish their shade...and the chance to educate the curious on the power of the enduring American Elm.

How to Use Jefferson American Elm in the Landscape

Add valuable shade by planting one on the south or southwestern aspect of your lawn. A single tree becomes a focal point with a poignant garden story to tell you, and your family and friends.

Give it room to achieve its full height and spread. Elms look best when they are allowed to preside over their allotted space with ease and grace.

If you have a larger property, why not plant several in a loose grouping? You'll easily create a wonderful, park-like setting without hassle.

Debonair Jefferson American Elms are actually quite rugged. Let them set the stage for an active family.

Or, entice tenants to invest in your commercial properties with help from a curved walking path. Add a few scattered benches placed under their broad-spreading branches for a very appealing corporate campus.

Of course, Elm can be grown in a row as a beautiful shaded boulevard. Add another row on the opposite side of the drive for an enchanting large allée.

But did you know, they'll also mix well with other trees? Keep your investment in plant material healthy with a biodiverse, modern design.

Choose to include them with other stalwart native trees like Oaks, Beech, Hornbeam, Catalpa and Tulip Trees to create a noteworthy display. Don't forget to weave in smaller, flowering understory trees like Redbud and Flowering Dogwood.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Plant Jefferson American Elm in full sun with at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. Well-drained soil is best; and provide a site with plenty of air circulation.

We highly encourage that you add a packet of Nature Hills Root Booster when planting. This time-tested formula includes mycorrhizal fungus.

The ingredients develop a naturally symbiotic relationship with your tree's tiny feeder roots. Support optimal access to water and soil nutrients in one easy step.

Apply a medium amount of supplemental water to protect your investment. You'll hear that Elms can withstand periodic drought, and it's true. But a hydrated tree stays stress-free and healthy.

Add a three-inch layer of mulch to keep the root system cool, and cut down on surface evaporation. Pull it back six inches from around the trunk.

Do any corrective pruning in late winter. The goal is to balance the canopy, with judicious and careful cuts.

Celebrate your opportunity to grow these phenomenal native trees in your space. Order disease-resistant Jefferson American Elm from Nature Hills today.
