Blooming from July till frost, this Heliopsis grows moderately tall and is an easy to grow perennial attracts butterflies and bees, but is deer resistant.

'Summer Sun Sunflower' needs to be grown in full sun, but can tolerate some afternoon shade. It can be planted in average, well-drained soil, but do not allow it to dry out. A wonderful addition to island beds or in the back or borders or as cut flowers. Of course your pollinator and butterfly gardens shouldn't be without some 'Summer Sun'.

I love yellow flowers!

Hi Jane49,

Thank you so much for sharing your enthusiasm for the Summer Sun Sunflower Heliopsis! Yellow flowers really do bring such cheerful brightness to any garden, and we’re delighted to hear how much you love them.

If you’d like your Heliopsis to thrive and produce lots of vibrant blooms, be sure to plant them in full sun and well-draining soil. They also appreciate regular watering while they’re getting established but can handle some drought once mature. For an added pop of color throughout the season, consider pairing them with deep purple or blue foliage plants — the contrast makes those sunny yellow blooms really stand out!

If you ever need tips on companion planting, care routines, or help troubleshooting any garden issues, we’re just a click away.

Additional tips on growing this perennial

In addition to the info on the website which I agree with, pinch the plant back when it is about 8 inches or so and has developed sets of leaves. This will keep it blooming longer. Dead head regularly also to keep it blooming longer. If you dont follow the above, it will stop blooming sooner. Mine blooms until end of August here in Michigan
