Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 5 - 9
The large bulbs and fanciful blooms of the Hardy Cyclamen (Cyclamen coum) amaze with their variegated heart-shaped leaves and nodding colorful pink to purple blooms! Featuring unique upturned petals with downward-facing centers, these cute fairy hats are unique tuberous perennial plants!
Appearing like dainty butterflies atop slender stems, the flowers can be lightly fragrant and return with new blossoms over and over throughout the spring weeks. The rounded heart-shaped leaves are dark green with light green splashes for a two-tone effect, forming rosettes of greenery
These perennial plants can be evergreen in their native range and love sunny or partially shaded garden beds and containers. Often sold in the florist market as houseplants, the bulbs last and last, often reblooming indoors and in warmer climates. These tuberous bulbs do very well indoors and out, loving the pampered conditions throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9.
Planting and Application:
Also known as Purple Cyclamen or Persian Violet, these plants are darling in rock gardens, in containers and container gardens, as houseplants and in greenhouses, and allowed to naturalize throughout the woodland garden! Growing just 8-12 inches tall and about as wide, these are space-saving little plants that can be enjoyed individually up close, or in large drifts outside for high impact in numbers!
Often going dormant during hot summers, the bulbs return bigger and better as soon as the temperatures cool off. Growing during the autumn as soon as they are planted indoors and in frost-free climates, Cyclamen bloom in the winter when forced indoors, or in spring outside in the garden bed or seasonal planter. Dress up a covered porch or table, or a bright indirectly lit room indoors with their unique blossoms that are sure to bring a smile to everyones face!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Cyclamen tubers are flat disc-like bulbs, and need moist, well-drained soil to do their best. Plant in full sun or partial shade for best results and the most flowering. Indoors though, it is best to place your plants in indirect sunlight. Once your foliage begins to die back and yellow, reduce watering and let the plant go dormant, trim away the leaves. Maintain the bare minimum of soil moisture while the bulb rests. Keep in a cool, dark location until you see new growth forming, then move back out into the light and resume watering. Provide a small amount of flowering bulb fertilizer to give them a boost.
- Full Sun to Partial Shade
- Moist, Well-Drained Enriched Soil
- Perennial Tubers
- Remove Foliage Once It Yellows
- Has Brief Dormant Periods During Summer
