Sweet preserves and late August fruit, the Golden Spice Pear Tree (Pyrus ussuriensis 'Golden Spice') features yellow fruit with a slight red blush where the sun is kissing the smooth skin. The sweet crisp flesh has a spicy flavor, making them fantastic for fresh eating, cooking, and baking as well as supreme jam and jelly!
Spring brings clouds of stunning white blossoms that the bees and butterflies adore! The glossy leaves look fantastic all summer before taking on a showy burgundy hue in the autumn! Highlighting the yellow fruit even more as it ripens! Ready to harvest and ripen off the tree in late August.
Golden Spice Pear Trees grow into oval mid-sized trees about 15-20 feet in height and a bit smaller in width. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 7, Golden Spice is remarkably cold-hardy. Resistant to Fireblight, Golden Spice will have a large harvest of small fruit if you have a Ure Pear or other Pears in the Ussuriensis family of Pyrus planted nearby for pollination.
Planting and Application:
Golden Spice is a lovely lawn tree with a mulch layer around its base, or as a small shade or accent flowering tree in both back and front yard sunny locations! Plant as a lovely edible ornamental specimen or in groupings to boost pollination and yield! Or try high-density planting techniques or groupings for backyard shade!
Pear Trees like Golden Spice are remarkably urban environment tolerant and can be pruned smaller to keep them easily in smaller yards and shorter for easier harvest! The shade provided by this hefty tree is perfect for planting over your seating areas and patio where you can best enjoy those gorgeous white blossoms, bask in the cooling shade, or have healthy snacks just an arm's reach away!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Pear trees need full sun, this variety is considered a mid-size tree. Provide at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, favoring the drying power of the morning sun. Plant in a well-enriched, organically enhanced site that has loamy, well-drained soil. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill. Situated in an area that is protected from frost pockets and with good air circulation.
Provide ample water, deeply saturating the root ball, especially for your young tree while it becomes established, not allowing it to dry out between waterings. Once established, you can reduce your watering to moderate, yet consistent moisture during the heat of summer and when fruiting.
For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.
Keep it smaller for smaller yards with annual summer pruning. That way you'll have no problem accommodating Golden Spice and its pollinators! Prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior.
- Full Sun For The Most Blooms & Fruit
- Well-Drained Enriched, Mulched Soil
- Regular Moisture Access
- Prune When Dormant After Last Spring Frost
- Resistant to Fireblight
