If your garden needs a 'gnu' look, you have to order yourself the Gnu Again Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'Gnu Again')! This gorgeous Iris offers a vision of true, deep purple with its voluminous, violet blooms, splashed and streaked with pure white touches. This dreamy Iris blooms year after year without much fuss or muss!
During the pinnacle of spring, this Iris explodes with giant blooms that are fragrant and longer lasting. The Gnu Again Iris will feel new again each year you discover its meteor shower-like blossoms with their fuzzy honey-yellow beards! Plant a few extra in your garden so you can snip some blooms for your bouquets without depriving your butterflies and Hummingbirds!
And when this lovely plant isn't in bloom, it continues to make an attractive border with its strong, stiff, bright green foliage. Like other Tall Bearded Iris, the Gnu Again Iris has strong stems that help it reach heights that set it high above any other flowers! Growing up to 3 feet tall when in flower, the clumps spread 1-2 feet wide.
Planting and Application:
Fill your garden with purple ruffles by planting a row of these in your perennial border, along a pathway or drive, or as a backdrop to spring and summer-flowering bulb gardens. They also look lovely set off against bright greens or the backdrop of your home as a foundation plant.
These sturdy flowers are an ideal choice for groupings, ribbons of colors, and as low-maintenance mass planting near a bench where you can admire them. Plant in Cottage and throughout both Rock and Rain Gardens, being highly adaptable to both once established.
Plant several in a container by your front door or garage as a feature specimen planting or as part of mixed planters where the foliage can act as a vertical element once the flowers fade. You can even keep this velvety secret to yourself in a container on your patio or by your pool.
For a stunning homage to the color purple, the Gnu Again Tall Bearded Iris will help you see how brilliant violet can be. You can't go wrong wherever you plant these perfectly purple blossoms. Invite your pollinators to the party by planting a row where you can watch for your local winged wildlife. Luckily, rabbits and deer don't bother with it.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the best showing of flowers, plant your Gnu Again Tall Bearded Irises in a sunny area. This tough plant will also root well in partial shade in most soil types. Just be sure to water your Gnu Again well while it roots and provide well-drained soil, so its roots won't sit in water. It does best with a mound of soil for water to run down. All plants appreciate a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their roots, especially Iris rhizomes prefer only to be partially covered.
Prune your Iris foliage back in late fall near the ground and cover it with an additional layer of mulch. The German Iris will be ready to divide and thin after about two to three years. You don't have to worry about rabbits or deer munching on them either.
Information About Bare Root Iris
Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots When you plant your Tall Bearded Iris rhizome, mound up soil and leave the top 1/3rd of the rhizome exposed.
Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover in the spring. Water well for the first year. Irises are best planted from late summer into fall.
