Growing Zones 3-8
Fine-textured lacy frills and cheerful white and pink blooms, the Elke Cranesbill Geranium (Geranium sanguineum 'Elke') is a hardy flowering groundcover perennial that will shine in your sunny landscapes this year! Loved for its long flowering season, lasting from spring through summer with a later rebloom in some growing zones!
These low-growing perennials burst into spring with large 2" blossoms the pollinators adore! The contrasting magenta veining over dark pink to fluorescent pink petals is accented by a large glowing white eye and slightly lighter margins.
Fine-textured, deeply-lobed foliage with a trailing habit, welcomes autumn with a reddish fall color and can even remain evergreen in warmer climates and mild winters! Growing throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 8, these are highly adaptable native cultivars that grow just 10-12 inches tall, while spreading up to 2 feet wide at maturity.
Landscape Application:
Pretty Elke Cranesbill Geranium is a showy front-of-the-border garden plant! Light up the edges and edging of your Cottage Gardens, mixed perennial gardens, and pollinator borders with their cheerful bright pink blossoms! A must-have for the Rock garden, or along the sides of pathways and your driveway, and in Container Gardens is where Cranesbill thrives best!
Slopes and eroding hillsides become brilliant pink spectacles while saving you the hassle of trying to mow these dangerous areas. Plus these groundcovers will slow rainwater and fill in large areas of ground as a flowering, ornamental landscape filler. Forming dense mats that choke out weeds, prevent moisture evaporation like mulch, and bring in the butterflies to those barren spaces between larger shrubs, trees, or perennials!
Adaptable to some shade and dappled understories, especially in hotter climates, Elke Geranium loves to ramble throughout woodland edges and naturalize slowly around the bases of trees and shrubs as a pretty skirt and facer plant! Imagine lighting up a dark evergreen hedge or fenceline with long-lasting pink blossoms and fine-cut lacy foliage!
- Magenta Veined Petals & Large Glowing White Eye & Lighter Margins
- Lacy Deeply Incised Green Foliage
- Compact, Rounded Yet Trailing & Mat-Forming Growth Habit
- Blooms for Months & Welcomes Pollinators Galore!
- Hardy Edging, Borders, Container Filler & Spillers, Mass Plantings & More!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
A long-lived perennial and very easy-care, the Elke Hardy Geranium is drought tolerant once established. Though it prefers full sun, they can tolerate some shade, especially in hotter climates. Plant in moist, well-drained soil for best results. Top-dressing with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch helps support plant roots significantly!
It is recommended you divide large clumps in spring every 3-5 years, to maintain the best growth and health of the plants. Shear back after the first wave of blooms and you'll enjoy a second flush. Then in autumn in cooler climates, or early spring in warm growing zones, prune back the entire plant and remove debris before new growth begins.
- Long-Lived In Full Sun & Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs - Drought-Tolerant Once Established
- Deadhead/Shear After First Blooms Fade For Later Rebloom
- Prune Back Foliage Late Autumn or Early Spring
- Deer & Rabbit-Resistant
Vibrant and hardy, the Elke Cranesbill Geranium will fill your landscape in brilliant pink blossoms and pollinators galore! Hurry and order yours at NatureHills.com, because we're sure to sell out of this showy low-growing gem!
