Fox Sedge Grass

The wetland restoration superhero, Fox Sedge Grass (Carex vulpinoidea) is one of those rare plants that will grow as well in Florida as it does in New Hampshire, Arizona, Washington or even Arkansas! Sedges aren't true Grasses and prefer dappled partial shade but will grow well in full sun as long as it gets steady water, or afternoon shade. Plant grasses and Sedges in well-drained sites regardless if you are planting in a wet to moist site or average garden conditions. All plants prefer a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch around their roots, especially in drier conditions. Prune back this cool-season grass, or clean up their mounds in the early spring if needed.
