Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Size | Actual Volume | Metric Equivalent |

4.5" Container | 0.65 dry quarts | 0.72 dry liters |

Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Pluots are one of the great taste sensations in all the world, and Flavor King Pluot is the supreme ruler of the Pluots. A superior, natural cross between a juicy Japanese Plum and a soft, sweet Apricot, the Flavor King will exceed your expectations!
Clouds of snow-white fragrant blossoms herald in spring! These scented lovelies make this as beneficial to your landscape as they are to the many pollinators that will be stopping by! Flavor King will need a pollinator partner, so try another Japanese Plum, or the Flavor Supreme Pluot.
Pluots look like Plums, with dark wine-red skin and firm yellow flesh. But one bite and you know you aren't eating a Plum because the juicy flesh is much sweeter! Because these fruits are a marriage of a Plum and an Apricot, the sugar content of both is magnified. This makes Flavor King incomparably sweet. It's a great way to get Vitamin C, Vitamin A, potassium and even fiber. Kids will never know that these are good for them!
Planting and Application:
The tree itself has a classic shape and beautiful Plum-like leaves, white fragrant blooms and would be a nice flowering tree for your landscape, and each year the harvest gets bigger! You'll have plenty to eat and an abundance to share with your friends and neighbors.
Flavor King Pluot is a magnificent shade tree for garden beds and seating areas. It is also a fantastic dual-purpose flowering ornamental for front and back yard gardens! It can also be pruned as small as you need for fitting into existing and established orchards and landscapes!
