Magically white fruit and hardy easy-care Mystical White St. John's Wort (Hypericum 'Mystical White') really stand out in your floral arrangements and your landscape! Future brides and floral designers take notice! For incredible bouquet additions, the creamy-white fruit of White Hypericum in the fall is a highly decorative addition to the garden in the fall, and floral design alike!

Starting as bright, sunny buttercup-like blooms have incredible deep-green foliage! St. Johns Wort, each center has a spray of stamen and pistils resembling golden fireworks! Bees, butterflies, and native pollinators will arrive in droves to sip nectar and relish in the nutritious pollen these native cultivars hold! Bursting onto the scene in early summer after many shrubs have already called it quits in the heat and rebloom through into early autumn!

Informal and tightly branched, the smooth foliage grows in a curious alternating fashion. Fall color tinges each leaf and in warmer growing zones, Hypericum may be semi-evergreen or even fully evergreen in mild winters! The dense, mounded shrub retains wonderful features and character, plus exfoliating bark and the dried seed capsules provide intriguing winter interest. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 6 to 9 and is one of the slightly larger Hypericum shrubs - growing 3-4 feet in height and width.

Planting and Application:

If you have a wooded edge or pollinator garden (or want to get the look of one) Hypericum fits right in! Bridging the transition between yard and woods, taming the wildness, and filling an area with bright yellow flowers! Don't worry about those out-of-the-way areas attracting deer, because they usually leave it alone! A tough native survivor, Hypericum likes to spread out a little to form nice colonies!

White Hypericum shrubs bring an unbothered 'scruffiness' to formal beds as well as informal country borders. Mixed-shrub borders, back-of-the-garden beds, and informal hedges are perfect for White Hypericum to roam! Even large containers and planters will welcome the bright filler and accent plant!

Your cutting garden is a natural place for this magical White Hypericum, and every florist is familiar with the name. The unique, glossy-white fruit appears in late summer and matures to a soft salmony pink for winter interest. They're incredibly fashionable in wedding bouquets and floral arrangements! Or, leave them to their own devices in the landscape for wonderful winter interest!

Need to fill an area with sunshine? Plant a few White Hypericum and sit back and relax! The spreading, suckering nature of these plants makes them perfect erosion control, on steep slopes and hard-to-mow areas, readily colonizing when planted en masse.

St. John's Wort is also a beneficial herb and has long been used to relieve everything from anxiety to inflammation. While we don't recommend using landscaping Hypercum medicinally, just the sunny blooms and the sheer amount of butterflies that arrive are sure to lift your spirits!

  • Bright-Yellow Star-Shaped Flowers
  • Deep Dark-Green Foliage
  • Cutting Gardens & Ornamental White Seedpods
  • Beneficial to Early Pollinators
  • Compact Shrub Winter Interest
  • Spreading & Naturalizing, Borders, Backdrops, Erosion Control & Accents

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This hardy cultivar of the American native is super easy-care! White Hypericum thrives in warm climates without any care at all. In colder growing zones, these act as deciduous shrubs, and may even die back to the ground during harsh winter months. Though it will come back strong and true each spring.

Loving the full sun, these also tolerate part shade and dappled sun areas too! Hypericum doesn't have much preference for soil type, though they prefer rich, sandy loams. Just be sure to provide well-drained soils since Hypericum cannot tolerate wet feet! A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch retains moisture and insulates the root system from heat and winter's chill. Prune while dormant to control the size and shape. Drought and rust-resistant, these easy-growing plants are low-maintenance.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Vigorous Growing Deciduous Flowering Shrub
  • Needs Well-Drained Soil & Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Deer Seldom Bother It & Drought Tolerant
  • Super Low Maintenance & Hardy American Native Cultivar
  • Prune When Dormant
