Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Growing Zones 5-9
Sunny blooms and blushed seedpods, get gorgeous four-season interest with the Beauty™ St. John's Wort (Hypericum x inodorum 'Kolmbeau') will enliven your garden spaces all year! Bright, smooth leaves that join directly to the sturdy stems emerge each spring, followed quickly by glowing sunny-yellow blooms!
Brilliantly sparkling, buttercup-like flowers, Beauty™ St. John's Wort has the added sparkle of a crown of long anthers shooting out of the centers of every bloom! Pollinators enjoy the gorgeous blooms as much as you will! Like a spray of golden fireworks, this smaller, compact shrub is bedecked in gold all spring and into summer! Even goes further in the autumn with a beautiful display of seedpods!
The cooler weather brings yellow fall color and lovely blushed pink to soft salmon-colored seed pods often used in floral design. Long-lasting seed pods darken over time until winter and remain on the plant for winter interest! Cold hardy to growing zone 5, Beauty™ can be semi-evergreen in warmer zones, keeping their unique, bright green foliage with their fall hues all winter too!
St. John's Wort has long been used as a beneficial herb and has been used to relieve everything from depression, and anxiety to inflammation. While we don't recommend using landscaping Hypercum medicinally, just the sunny blooms and the sheer amount of butterflies that arrive are sure to lift your spirits!
Planting and Application:
Beauty™ St. John's Wort looks lovely in sunny beds and as accents in borders. Mingles delightfully in mixed shrub and perennial borders. Also suitable as a tough foundation planting! Mixed-shrub borders, the back garden bed, and informal hedges are perfect spots for St. John's Wort to roam! Alternately, Beauty™ brings a nice 'scruffiness' to a formal planting bed as well as fitting in perfectly in informal country borders and as backdrops to perennial borders! Either way, St. John's Wort compliments your style!
Your cutting garden and pollinator border is a natural place for these lovelies, and every florist will be familiar with the botanical name 'Hypericum'. Those unique seed pods that appear in fall are glossy salmon-blushed and so cool to use in fashionable floral bouquets or leave the seedpods on the shrub for wonderful winter interest! Sunny and easy-care specimen plants, these shrubs look great anywhere! If you have a wooded edge (or want to get the look of one) St. John's Wort fits right in.
The spreading and suckering nature of these plants makes them perfect for erosion control, on steep slopes, and en masse - transforming them into golden hillsides full of bees and butterflies! Need to fill an area with sunshine? Plant a few St. John's Wort and sit back and relax! Don't worry about those out-of-the-way areas attracting deer, those uninvited guests will usually leave this plant alone!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Beauty™ prefers to be planted in full sun and a touch of part shade/afternoon shade. Plant in well-drained soil for the best growth possible! St. John's Wort thrives in the southeast without any care at all. While evergreen and semi-evergreen in warmer USDA growing zones 5 to 9. In cooler parts of the country, it may be a deciduous shrub during winter or even die back to the ground in harsh winters, but it will come back strong and true each spring. St. John's Wort cannot tolerate wet feet!
A generous layer of mulch retains moisture and insulates the root system from heat and winter's chill. St. John's Wort blooms on new wood, so prune while dormant to control the size and shape however, these really do their best in locations where they're allowed to be themselves.
