Sometimes referred to as a "bald peach," the Nectarine is a great addition to your orchard. Our Sweet Fantasia Nectarine (Prunus persica var nucipersica 'Fantasia') is a popular fruit tree with large, freestone fruit!
This variety offers growers a late-season harvest of sweet, tangy fruit that has many of the same properties as a peach, minus the fuzz! The large yellow freestone fruit is as quality a crop as it can get!
A perpetually high-scorer in taste tests, the Sweet Fantasia is the peach's more interesting cousin. The fruit itself is more aromatic than the peach, with sweet, succulent flesh that has a bit of a spicy afterbite.
No summer is complete without feeling the childhood joy of fresh nectarine juice on the chin, it's practically a rite of summer in some areas of the country. The late-season harvest produces firm, and tangy fruits, while late-harvest fruits tend to be sweeter with a more robust flavor profile. Let the fruit hang on the tree if you like sweeter and juicier fruit.
How to Use Fantasia Nectarine Tree In The Landscape
The Sweet Fantasia Nectarine offers plenty of culinary uses. Pick it straight from the tree, and then eat it by itself, slice it into a fruit salad, or fabulous jellies, jams and preserves. This freestone fruit makes preparation easy for use in dessert recipes calling for peaches, including pies, crisps and cobblers. Wonderful for canning!
The Nectarines trees themselves are stunning! The dazzling pink spring bloom is a sight to behold! Plus the large, bright yellow, firm fruit features a pretty red blush.
A fantastic size for casting lush shade over patio and garden beds. The beautiful bloom makes this a perfect ornamental tree for front yard landscaping as well as beautiful ornamentation for your back seating areas!
Park a chair or blanket beneath the beautiful limbs to watch the bees and butterflies go about their business on the fragrant blooms. Or watch as your juicy harvest ripens and pluck healthy snacks right from the branches!
Prune smaller as needed to maintain a tree perfect for smaller properties or for use in hedgerows for property definition and privacy. Tuck into an existing orchard for ease of harvest and space-saving convenience!
#ProPlantTips For Care
Our Sweet Fantasia Nectarine is a self-pollinator, making it an ideal option for the home gardener! The tree's low chill requirement makes it just the variety for a range of different climates. Hardy in USDA hardiness zones 5 through 9.
Fruit trees require full sun for the most vigorous growth and best harvest. Provide at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, favoring the drying power of the morning sun.
Provide ample water for your young tree while it becomes established, not allowing it to dry out between waterings. Then reduce to moderate, yet consistent moisture during the heat of summer and when fruiting. While drought-tolerant, it’s best to protect your investment by providing supplemental watering in times of need.
Plant in rich, organically enhanced, well-drained, fertile soil. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.
Often planted alongside Apple, Cherry or Pear trees, the Nectarine is a vigorous grower that requires pruning and thinning to ensure crop consistency. Hold the Sweet Fantasia Nectarine to any height with summer pruning. Moderate soil fertility and good drainage are a must.
Protect from frost pockets with good air circulation and prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior. Head over to read more on Nectarine Tree Care in our Garden Blog where more Fruit Tree Planting, Fruit Tree Pruning and Fruit Tree Information can be found!
