Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Size | Actual Volume | Metric Equivalent |
---|---|---|
2" x 2" x 3" | 0.18 - 0.21 dry quarts | 0.20 - 0.23 dry liters |

Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 4 - 9
Big excitement from a little plant, it's time to add some energy and excitement to your tired garden and we have just the thing for you! EverColor® Everlite Variegated Sedge Grass (Carex oshimensis 'Everlite') is the newest introduction in the EverColor® line of Sedges from the Southern Living® plant collection and it is about to blow the boring out of your garden!
This beauty has very distinctive coloration which will stand out like a beacon - albeit a soft, frothy one - in the landscape. Each blade has a soft creamy interior that glows against a rich deep-green edge. It looks stunning with dark-colored evergreens or the bright flowers of a perennial border.
It is super hardy and evergreen in warmer, frost-free climates and requires very little maintenance! Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, Everlite Sedge are dwarf-sized perennials growing 10-15 inches tall and 8-10 inches wide.
Landscape Application:
This little guy fits anywhere, sun or shade. It makes a BIG impact in a SMALL garden! Even if you only have a tiny spot like a pot on a balcony, you will love the gorgeous impression Everlite makes! This is the most compact of all the EverColor® Sedges and is perfect for edging a border, softening a hardscape, spilling out of a container, or filling out a garden bed.
Sedges are ideal in Rain Gardens, ponds, or around the outskirts of Meditation and Zen gardens. Variegated Sedge Grass provides motion and color in partly sunny or partly shaded areas!
Plant Everlite en masse on hillsides and slopes to protect our precious groundwater from potentially polluted runoff from roofs and streets. The spreading roots and clumps help slow erosion on hillsides and soak up excess moisture on rooftop gardens.
- Beautiful White/Green Bi-Colored Blades
- Pretty, Fountain-Like Habit
- Evergreen Or Perennial
- Perfect For Small Gardens & Containers
- Water Gardens, Borders & Edging & Easy En Masse
#ProPlantTips for Care:
This type of Hair Grass requires full sun to part sun locations, but in the hottest climates, gives Sedges more moisture and afternoon shade or all-day dappled shade. Growing best in moist, well-drained soil, so provide them with consistent water.
Make sure to cut back all the foliage in the late winter or early spring each year before new growth emerges. You'll make way for fresh new leaves to emerge from the roots each spring! Otherwise, these petite powerhouses are quite easy-care. If you like to have a tidy space, gently rake them to clear fallen leaves.
- Great In Partial Sun or Part Shade
- Thrives in Moist, Well-Drained Soil
- Moist to Higher Moisture Locations
- Prune Down Or Clean Mounds In Early Spring
- Rabbit & Deer Resistant
You know that you need this beauty in your garden this year! Don't wait until we're sold out of EverColor® Everlite Sedge Grass! They will go fast so order yours today at NatureHills.com!
