The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Dwarf Myrtle Shrub (Myrtus communis 'Compacta') is a unique smaller broadleaf evergreen shrub with loads of appeal for the smaller property or container gardener! Handling xeric and arid locations with ease. You will appreciate this shrub's hardiness to heat, sun, and coastal environments!
Unlike Crape Mytles, true Myrtles are broadleaf evergreens with abundant creamy white blossoms each spring. The aromatic flowers are accented by multiple showy yellow-tipped stamens for a delightful display! Sought out by bees and butterflies as a nectar and pollen-rich resource. Later in the season, your shrub will produce bird-friendly small blue-black berries! You can eat these berries too but they're best for your songbirds!
Dwarf Myrtle shrubs are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 8 to 10, holding steadfast in color through the heat and humidity with ease! Growing just knee-high at 2-3 feet tall and wide, Compacta is slow-growing and nearly maintenance-free! This shrub is here for the long haul, so it's not in any hurry to grow - or rather outgrow - your space!
Planting and Application:
Create a tidy and naturally rounded hedge to define your property or garden borders! Use in place of Boxwood or Privet where these shrubs may be too troublesome and need lots of shearing and attention. Shore up the fronts of larger, older, leggier shrub hedges and evergreen living fences with a facer planting of Dwarf Myrtle to hide their bare lower stems!
Create a year-round hedge in the front of your home's foundation that won't block your view! Line a path or driveway in evergreen beauty, or create a planting on either side of the stairs leading up to your front door for a formal effect that won't take all your time with shearing!
Pot up Dwarf Myrtle for an easy planter specimen or container thriller. Use a colorful painted terra cotta pot or stone urn to show off your unique style! Plant spillers around the base for a pretty layer of fringe. Plus you'll have little worry about Deer munching away at your hedge!
- Small Rounded Broadleaf Evergreen Shrub
- Aromatic White Flowers & Showy Yellow Stamen
- Pollinator & Bird Friendly Edible/Medicinal Blue-Black Fruit

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Rarely in need of pruning due to their modest growth and naturally smaller size, these full sun and partial shade shrubs flower best in 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Plant in well-drained soil with regular moisture at first, but then once established, Myrtle are highly drought-tolerant bushes! Provide a 3-4 inch layer of mulch around the base of the shrub to keep the foliage cleaner and stop mud from splashing the leaves. Dwarf Myrtles are fantastic for shaping and creating meticulously trained topiary! When you do trim or shear, do so only right after flowering for the healthiest shrubs. The stems are often used as greenery in floral designs and are loved by florists for their long-lasting color.
- Full Sun & Part Shade
- Well-Drained Soil - Xeric Sites Once Established
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Prune After Flowering
- Salt & Deer Resistant Broad-leaved Evergreens
