This flowering vine has 2" long tubular, deep-red flowers with orange throats that are born in clusters all along the stems and new growth. Easily growing to full length each growing season, these start pumping out blooms in spring, and last all summer long.
Dropmore Scarlet will fit perfectly into any garden design and size. The foliage is an even deep green with blue tints, however, it is usually smothered in vivid clusters that absolutely cover this plant in amazing color! Reaching near full height in a single growing season, these types of Honeysuckle are amazing growers! Filling an area with deep blue-green foliage and bright blooms
You will be amazed by the sheer volume of these exotic flowers! Dropmore is a vital nectar source for all your pollinators, butterflies, beneficial insects, and Hummingbirds that will not be able to resist! The tubular flowers give way to small, inedible red berries in the fall which the songbirds just love!
In warmer climates, Honeysuckle can remain semi-evergreen, and their root systems tolerate the coldest climates as well. No matter where they grow, these Vines are virtually indestructible. They are so adaptable to many conditions and very easy to manage. Resistant to powdery mildew, Dropmore Scarlet even tolerates some drought throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 8.
Planting and Application:
These flowers cling to a vigorously growing vine that's vibrant and dramatic as it clambers over your garden trellis and arbors. The orangey-red flowers look gorgeous climbing over fences and screening out unsightly views while enhancing your own. Acting as semi-evergreen in warmer growing zones and provide lush backdrop plants among your beds and borders.
This fast-growing vine won't get into trouble in the landscape, Dropmore Scarlet will ramble up a trellis, fences, and any place you encourage it to do so, and without worry that it will pop up elsewhere! Also, Honeysuckle Vines can be trained into a shrub, or left to trail along the ground as groundcover, garden filler, and on slopes as erosion control! Beautifully spilling over retaining walls and rambling over hardscapes.
Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle creates a dramatic effect when climbing up strong supports or rambling along your porch railing. These flowering ornamental vines even work amazingly well in porch planters as both upright thriller and a flowing spiller.
Adapting to any style garden, these tame native cultivars fill your landscape with color quickly and are even suitable for indoor floral arrangements, filling your vases with sweet-smelling blooms.
Incorporate into your garden obelisk among your other planted flowers and perennials to add height, color, some light fragrance, and plenty of drama! #ProPlantTips for Care:
Versatile, easy to grow, and hardy, Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle loves the full sun and is highly disease-resistant and adaptable. These are appreciative of some afternoon shade during the hottest parts of summer in warmer growing zones. Honeysuckle are not particular about soil type, though these Vines love any well-drained soil that ranges from acidic to alkaline. Just provide good air circulation and water to keep these two-tone flowers going strong all summer!
Take care when applying lawn fertilizers near flowering shrubs. These high-nitrogen formulas are designed to produce foliage, but will not support flower development. Instead, apply an all-purpose fertilizer for blooming plants in early spring. Reapply in mid-summer, following label directions for application rates.
Flowering best in average moisture, Dropmore Scarlet is very drought tolerant once established. You can apply a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch and& compost around the base of your Honeysuckle to keep it happy! Extremely low maintenance, these won't need to be pruned often but can be trimmed back after flowering or in the late winter/early spring. Because they are fast-growing, overgrown vines can be cut back hard when dormant or renewal pruned every 3-5 years.
