Who said disco is dead? Disco is alive and well in the garden, and the Disco Music Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'Disco Music') will have you dancing all spring long with its vibrant and striking blooms! In fact, it might make you forgive those disco-era hairdos and sequined bell bottoms. With orange coloration and violet pinstripes, this Iris proves that Disco Music is here to stay.
This classically shaped iris blooms in a range of orange hues. From its rich yet vibrant orange beard to its soft and peachy standards, and striped orange falls, it is truly a vision! And it doesn't skimp on the blooms either. It will bud with two 5-inch flowers per stem. You will love using the blooms in cut flower bouquets!
If you're a fan of full green foliage, you're in luck! This Bearded Iris has a thick and verdant mound of sword-shaped fanned foliage that looks healthy and attractive year-round. Heat and cold-hardy throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 9, growing up to 39 inches tall when in bloom, but spreading only 12-18 inches wide.
Planting and Application:
Enhance your home's foundation plantings or a boring fenceline with these low-maintenance plants. Any garden becomes a pollinator and Hummingbird garden! The Disco Music Iris will even have your local pollinators boogying down. This just happens to be a favorite flower that gives hummingbirds and butterflies those good vibrations!
Create a dazzling show of orange by planting several Disco Music Irises around your mailbox or as a front border. This iris also looks eye-catching as a container specimen or planted in a mass planting. Highlight other plants with a row of Iris foliage as back-of-the-garden greenery all growing season!
Small space gardens and planters of all sizes gain height and color with this small footprint, romantic plant. Don't worry about overcrowding, because Iris rhizomes won't mind sharing. They tolerate Xeric conditions for use in the Rock Garden but also love higher moisture levels around a Rain Garden or water feature and attract all your favorite garden visitors!
- Large Bright Orange-Hued Blooms
- Upright Clumps of Sword-Like Foliage
- Hummingbirds, Bees & Butterflies Galore
- Vibrant Cut Flowers & Container Thrillers

#ProPlantTips for Care:
The Disco Music Iris shines in full sun or partial shade and enjoys quick-draining soil. It tolerates a wide range of soil types including sandy soil, acidic soil, and clay. Plant it centered on a small mound to let the water easily drain away. It roots well when watered regularly for the first year. After you will want to limit watering it to when its soil begins to dry out. Bearded Iris are relatively drought-tolerant once established, so you don't need to worry!
All plants appreciate a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their roots, especially Iris rhizomes prefer only to be partially covered. Prune your Iris foliage back in late fall near the ground and cover it with an additional layer of mulch. The German Iris will be ready to divide and thin after about two to three years. You don't have to worry about rabbits or deer munching on them either.
Information About Bare Root Iris
Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots When you plant your Tall Bearded Iris rhizome, mound up soil and leave the top 1/3rd of the rhizome exposed.
Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover in the spring. Water well for the first year. Irises are best planted from late summer into fall.
