Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability

Growing Zones 7-9
Delicious Muscadine Grape (Vitis rotundifolia 'Delicious') is a medium-sized dark black oval Grape that ripens early. Released by the University of Florida, this Muscadine cultivar produces high yields of edible-skinned flavorful fruit - ripening about 2 weeks earlier than other Muscadine varieties! Great fresh eating, juicing, and great potential for winemaking!
The vines burst into life each spring and fill out in flush of ornamental green foliage and greenish white sprays of flowers. Pollinators will arrive to sip the nectar and pollinate your vines! This early-season Grape will be ready for harvest in no time and give you and your family a great harvest for all your fresh snacks, treats, juice, preserves, and even wine if you are inclined!
Delicious Muscadine Grape is a self-fertile deciduous variety, but multiple Muscadine plants planted nearby will increase pollination and therefore yield. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 9, Delicious grows about 10-15 feet in height and 6-8 feet in width at maturity.
Planting and Application:
Growing best in the southern US where the Muscadine is native, these fruiting vines add beauty and timeless elegance (and fruit!) to your landscape as a fruiting edible ornamental! Add a touch of the vineyard to seating areas and outdoor garden rooms by employing this vine as screening, edible décor, and shade!
Train Delicious Muscadine Grape to grow up the sides of a pergola or over an arbor with a garden bench or bistro nook beneath it, or create walls to your garden rooms for privacy by training Delicious up a lattice fence or trellis! Your back porch or front stoop gains a touch of Italy with a grapevine rambling up a pillar or railing.
- Dark Purple/Black Oval Fruit
- Sweet & Flavorful Fruit
- Self-Fruitful Greenish White Blooms For Pollinators
- Lush Green Foliage & Ornamental Bark For Winter Interest
- Ornamental Shade, Privacy, Edible Landscaping & Healthy Fruit
#ProPlantTips for Care:
This Muscadine Grape requires full sun and require heat to ripen. Plant your vine where it will get the most! These deciduous vines do well in most soils as long as you have good drainage. Wet or heavy clay soils are not good for Grapes, and an ideal pH level for Grapes is 6.5. Provide 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to help maintain the proper temperature, soil moisture, and improve the soil quality over time.
Prune off broken or dead portions of branches and roots, and maintain good air circulation around the foliage. Prune the top growth to a single cane when dormant or in the early spring before they begin to grow for the year. Timing is important because the canes can drop sap and bleed if pruned too late or too early. You will get a larger yield by planting multiple Muscadine varieties, but Delicious is self-fertile and will give you a great heavy crop each year!
- Full Sun For The Most Fruit
