The Chicago Apache Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Chicago Apache') is a deep, rich velvet-red, with a tiny yellow-green heart and petal edges that ruffle nicely. The ruddy blooms are rich and heavily saturated, and lightly ruffled on the edges!
These produce tall scapes of blooms with multiple buds per stem. Sprouting from the dense bunches of strappy, arching foliage, these green fountains add a lovely fine texture to the landscape! Plus plenty of flowers for your indoor bouquets!
Chicago Apache is one of our longest bloomers out there in the Daylily family! It was selected for its abundance of blossoms, vibrant colors, and hardiness in a variety of climates and soils! It attracts butterflies and resists rabbits and deer! This tetraploid herbaceous perennial is adaptable throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9 and grows taller than wide when in bloom, reaching 24-28 inches in height and 12-18 inches wide.
Planting and Application:
Daylilies are perfect in container gardens and are lovely fillers, spillers, and focal points in planters, windowboxes, and in groupings in large urns as a spectacular display! Plant a few extra plants so you and your pollinators can enjoy their fill of these blossoms!
Add color to the mixed shrub borders and perennial beds. Use them to add star appeal to stand-alone plantings, as facer plants, or in mixed containers and planting tubs. Mix with other Daylilies for an impactful, easy-care look, as a wonderful Xeric landscape plant and is on many fire-scaping lists.
Daylilies are well-known for their cold and heat hardiness, durability in urban conditions, their tolerance of pollution, and streetside plantings! Once established, Daylily can be an excellent groundcover on slopes because it has dense roots that hold soil against erosion. Daylilies can survive harsh conditions that other plants cannot including slopes, poor and dry soils, and near pavement that is salted in winter. Use Daylilies in the front of your garden border and along walkways as edging, in Rock Gardens, and in street-side hell strips.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
These perennials require little maintenance throughout the year to keep performing their best. Daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and are a great choice for any gardener. Daylilies need full sun to do their best, and grow in almost any soil while handle drought to wet soil conditions. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!
Deadhead during the summer to keep the plants reblooming and prune back clumps in the fall once frost has killed the leaves back. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so it is important to remove the foliage before winter to prevent disease overwintering on the old leaves. In colder hardiness zones, the foliage may die back to the roots for winter and regrow from the crown in the spring, but in warmer climates, Daylilies can sometimes remain evergreen. It can be divided at any time of year and division is usually needed every 3-5 years for best performance.
