Blockbuster summer show and the flower power to the big screen! Buttered Popcorn Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Buttered Popcorn') delivers an outstanding performance to thrill your garden visitors for plenty of "oohs" and "ahhs"! The trumpet-shaped blossoms are irresistible to Hummingbirds and will be amazingly ornamental from late spring through fall.
The fragrant yellow flowers reach six inches wide and are held on well-branched scapes. You'll enjoy a profuse show from midsummer through fall. Show off your style with this excellent choice. Buttered Popcorn Daylily delivers an extended period of bloom, healthy foliage, showy stamens, and fragrant flowers, giving you plenty of cut flowers for bouquets.
The plants stay compact and low. Even when not in bloom, the strappy arching mounds of green foliage add an elegant look to your design. The beautiful bladed leaves arch outward surrounding the stems rising out of the center of the plants. This herbaceous perennial plant is classified as a miniature, with the flowers rising above the compact mound of strappy green foliage. Cold and heat-tolerant throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9.
Planting and Application:
The mellow color suits many styles of landscape design from Cottage to contemporary. It pairs beautifully with summer-blooming perennials from Liatris to Butterfly Bush. Use them to add star appeal to stand-alone plantings, as facer plants, or in mixed containers and planting tubs.
Southern gardens swear this modern cultivar outshines Stella de Oro Daylily. We say, why not use them both to set the stage for an elegant monochromatic look? Choose your favorites from our extensive online catalog and create a lush and colorful backdrop for outdoor get-togethers. Run a long hedge of Buttered Popcorn along your fence line to take advantage of the sophisticated, arched green foliage.
These rugged plants can handle themselves in Rock Gardens, in cottage borders, pollinator borders, and throughout your sun landscape without worry! Applaud their rugged durability in urban conditions, including streetside plantings. You can even use them under Black Walnut trees, as they aren't affected by juglone! Use Daylilies in the front of your garden border and along walkways as edging, and in street-side hell strips.
Plant in drifts and in blocks to maximize this fantastic beacon of color! Planted together in large numbers, they quickly crowd out weeds and make a carefree and colorful groundcover. And you'll appreciate their carefree nature! Mix with other Daylilies for an impactful, easy-care look, as a wonderful Xeric landscape plant and is on many fire-scaping lists.
To create a continuous display, plant 2 feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one plant to the center of the next. For mass plantings, use a staggered, zig-zagging planting pattern. Mulch between plants and keep them weeded until they grow together.
All parts of the Daylily can be eaten. Harvest the flower shoots when they first appear in the spring when they are tender. Chop them up and add to stir fry or pasta dishes. The flowers are also a popular, colorful addition to green salads.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
These herbaceous perennials require little maintenance throughout the year to keep performing their best. Daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and are a great choice for any gardener. The plant prefers full sun with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight for the best performance. They will grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!
Spent blooms can be deadheaded, then remove entire stems once all the buds are done to keep the plants reblooming. In colder hardiness zones 4-8, the foliage may die back to the roots for winter and regrow from the crown in the spring, but in warmer climates, Daylilies can sometimes remain evergreen. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so for that reason it is very important to cut all of the foliage to the ground in late fall after the plants have been exposed to a couple of frosts. Removing the foliage before winter prevents the overwintering of disease on the old leaves so it is best to always clean them up and dispose of the old foliage each year. Every 3-5 years, it is recommended you divide the clumps to keep them growing vigorously.
