Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 3-9
Dark and mysterious, there's nothing to fear in the dark! Bela Lugosi Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Bela Lugosi'), is a Designer Daylily™ with 6" flowers that are a deep true purple with a vivid lime green throat! One of the best dark purple Daylilies on the market! The flowers are very sunfast for such a dark color. You will not catch this flower fading!
These incredibly large and vibrant two-tone blooms are sure to show off anywhere in the sun or in the vase since the plants have strong, sturdy stems that hold up in the bouquet as well! The pollinators won't be afraid to show up to these blooms and hummingbirds will seek out the dramatically dark purple blooms for their generous nectar resources!
Recipient of the American Hemerocallis Society's Honorable Mention in 1998 and Award of Merit in 2001, this herbaceous perennial is heat and cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9. Bela Lugosi is an excellent grower that boasts lots of buds and wonderful branching. An absolute must-have for a Daylily garden!
Designer Daylilies™ have been selected as highly performing plants with exceptional bloom performance, substantive, vibrantly colored flowers, complete winter hardiness in northern zones, and a vigorous habit! These tetraploid Daylilies can remain partially evergreen in mild winters of warmer climates, but the grassy mounds of perennial foliage dies back to the ground in cold climates, only to return with fervor each spring!
Planting and Application:
Use for stand-alone plantings to bring drama and depth throughout the Cottage and Perennial gardens and tough enough for Rock Gardens! Kick up the impact by grouping or planting Bela Lugosi in rows throughout the garden! Jump the garden border and use these dark and mysterious perennials in sun-drenched patios and porches in both mixed containers and tubs!
Must-haves as edging, and facer plants in borders, hiding leggy foundation planting stems, or lighting up an evergreen hedge! Planted together in large numbers, they quickly crowd out weeds and make a carefree and colorful groundcover.
Not only are Daylily impactful, easy-care, and tough enough throughout the Xeric landscape plant and are on many fire-scaping landscaping lists, but their root systems also hold back the soil on eroding slopes, and enhancing a hard-to-mow hillside! Daylilies are ideal for massing in groupings and rows throughout those tricky areas of the landscape! Hell strips that get salted or occasional foot traffic by driveways, sidewalks, and along the road.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Daylilies are some of the easiest perennials to grow and are a good choice for any gardener! The plant prefers full sun with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight for the best performance. They will grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!
Spent blooms can be deadheaded, then remove entire stems once all the buds are done to keep the plants reblooming. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so for that reason it is very important to cut all of the foliage to the ground in late fall after the plants have been exposed to a couple of frosts. Removing the foliage before winter prevents the overwintering of disease on the old leaves so it is best to always clean them up and dispose of the old foliage each year. Every 3-5 years, it is recommended you divide the clumps to keep them growing vigorously.
Daylilies can survive many harsh conditions that other plants cannot, including polluted city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, near pavement that is salted in winter, and under Black Walnut trees (not affected by juglone).
- Best in Full Sun
- Adaptable in Any Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture - Low Once Established
- Prune Late Fall, Deadhead Regularly & Divide Every 3-5 Years
- Seldom Bothered By Pests, Disease, Deer, Salt & Clay Soil
You will enjoy watching the hummingbirds as they visit this stunning deep purple Daylily that even the Count himself would approve of! Order your own Bela Lugosi Daylily today at Nature Hills!
