Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

This Iris's petals are a mahogany red along the edges that lightens up into a charismatic burnt orange near its center. The ombre effect is matched by its blazing orange beard that rivals even the most fashionable designer skirts.

Oh, and to be a fluttering Pollinator who will come across such a delectable treat! Hummingbirds, Butterflies, and bees alike will stop by for a snack and rest on the ruffled blossoms! They'll bring your garden to life while you sit back and watch those pretty wings! You will certainly want to plant a few extra to ensure they won't go hungry when you snip a few of the sturdy stems for your bouquets indoors!

Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 9, these adaptable, versatile, and deer-resistant Tall Bearded Iris perennial rhizomes for a wide range of US gardeners! Growing 35 inches in height when in bloom, and the sword-like foliage has good manners and only creates polite clumps 12 - 18 inches wide.

Planting and Application:

There's no shortage of ways to incorporate Dame de Coeur into your garden! Its handsome gray-green foliage makes a stunning backdrop for your shorter perennials and the blossoms are on stems that grow to be quite tall. Line a tired evergreen hedge or your home's foundation in the vertical texture and radiant blossoms!

Dramatic edging along paths and sidewalks, and your driveway, the enticing blooms will make you linger a moment to take in their beauty and their scent! Add some fringe to the steps leading to your front door or around a seating area in your sunny backyard. Groupings and mass drifts look fantastic and amplify the dramatic hue! Mix with other mauve, rosy, and orange blooms in the landscape!

They'll certainly be tall enough to work well towards the back of your perennial gardens! No need to worry about whether it'll be seen, Dame de Coeur prides itself on being one of the most noticeable in the crowd! Hardy enough for Rock Gardens, and frilly enough for the Cottage border, Dame de Coeur fits right into formal and informal settings alike!

Even in containers and mixed planters, Dame de Coeur is a grand thriller and focal point! Plant in large groupings with a spiller around the edges, or as a vertical planting among fillers and spillers on your porch, patio, and balcony!

  • Splashed of Raspberry & Gold Over Heavily Ruffled Petals
  • Gorgeous Gray-Green Sword-Like Foliage
  • Container Specimens & Luxurious Cut Flowers
  • Fantastic in Mass Plantings, Groupings, Edging & Backdrop Accents

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Flowering best in full sun, Iris in hotter climates appreciate afternoon shade. Any well-drained soil with regular moderate moisture access is suitable for these rhizomes since they despise soggy soil. All plants appreciate 3-4 inches of arborist mulch around their root systems, and Bearded Iris are actually drought tolerant once established!

Divide every few years and it's recommended you deadhead after the flowers fade. Trim all the foliage back in the autumn once it yellows and cover the rhizomes loosely with compost, mulch, or evergreen boughs for the winter. Deer, Rabbits, and Squirrels seldom eat these perennials or their rhizomes.

Information About Bare Root Iris

Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots.

Be sure to set your Iris up for success by planting it in the fall in a shallow hole with a hill of soil at its center. Place the rhizome on the hill and bury it with enough soil to leave the top of the rhizome exposed. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover it in the spring.
