Spots and speckles! The Dalmation Rose Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea 'Dalmatian Rose') is a lovely towering spire full of tubular blooms filling the upright blooms, each individual pinkish-purple flared flower has dozens of dark freckles in its throat! Like a landing zone for bees and butterflies, even a few hummingbirds are lured in by these dazzling clusters of vertical blooms!

Providing perfect cut flowers, it only takes a few Dalmatian Rose Foxglove stems to fill a vase with their long-lasting blooms. As they flower from the bottom to the tip in turn, you'll enjoy a very long display and gorgeous focal points in the garden or in a tall slender vase!

Foxgloves are biennial, so let the seeds fall and enjoy them year after year! Dalmation Rose is wonderfully fast-growing and hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9 and can reach about 2-3 feet tall when in full bloom, and spread to about a foot wide. Because these are biennials, in their first year they grow as a dense rosette of lush green foliage and in the second year, that rosette sprouts the tall spires as baby plants can begin to form around the base.

Planting and Application:

The tall plants are very architectural and give great structure along a fence or in the middle of a garden border. These beauties are synonymous with Cottage gardens in Europe and America. They take the stages in mixed cut flower, pollinator, and perennial borders! Try them in mass around a tree, or in rows spaced in military precision for a striking modern look!

Dalmation Rose Foxglove looks great with Roses, planted among flouncy blooms like Peony, or standing tall behind Daisies and fine-textured blooms like Russian Sage! Try pairing different textures and colors, like mounding Sedum, or Purple Iris! As pretty as they are in groups and borders, they also excel in large containers. Plant them with white blooming perennials for a formal look or with yellows and pinks for an old-fashioned feel.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Digitalis is easy to grow and widely adaptable to different soil types and conditions, performing best in full to partial sun exposure, with well-drained soil. Deer and rabbits are not interested in this plant. In areas where you have less sun, or have strong winds, it is recommended to stake these tall blooms to support them. Cover their root systems with 3-4 inches of mulch to hold in moisture and insulate the roots and water consistently to keep those blooms happy and healthy! Do not let them dry out.

Always wear gloves when handling this plant! Foxglove can be deadheaded immediately after the bloom finishes for a possible rebloom later in the season. Or, allow the plants to produce seed and let it ripen and drop so the plants can produce one-year plants for a successive crop of this biennial plant.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade

  • Consistent Moisture
  • Appreciates Mulched Garden Beds
  • May Need Staking
