Need a shade-loving windbreak and love the look of Leyland Cypress but have had bad luck with them because your property has too much shade? The Cryptomeria Yoshino (Cryptomeria japonica 'Yoshino') will help you out!

This strong grower provides a tall, dense, evergreen screen along the edges of many famous gardens. A lot of the charm of this graceful evergreen is its great texture and color. The summer color is glistening blue-green, but the needle-like leaves turn a bronzy-purple winter hue, especially when exposed to cold winds!

The tree grows into a coveted tall open pyramidal shape, but has an almost "fluffy" look to it that has to be seen to be appreciated. These Japanese Cedar trees grow fast throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9 and can be very adaptable and pest-resistant.

Planting and Application:

Perhaps you have visited a Japanese Garden and wondered how they get the feeling that you're totally surrounded by nature, no matter where the garden is located? Cryptomeria Yoshino is the answer!

Also known as Yoshino Japanese Cedar, these fluffy trees are a must-have for year-round privacy and screening without feeling formal and stuffy. The lush green fluffy texture lends itself to easy property division and windbreaks, bulking up a mixed border and shelterbelt.

These tough evergreens are tolerant of compacted soil and perform well in parking lots and urban environments as long as they have access to moisture. Growing tall at 35-40 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide - fast! So if you need property definition or privacy yesterday … you need to look into this evergreen!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Cryptomeria will grow well in either sun or shade and tolerate many different soil types! In colder growing zones, protect these evergreens from harsh winds, on well-drained, moist, acid soil. Rarely in need of fussing or pruning and just wants a little springtime fertilizer. Leave the branches all the way to the ground to keep the classic form and the maximum amount of privacy and screening! The only pruning to be done should be to remove winter dieback.
