All Hail the Crimson Queen Japanese Maple! One of the prettiest of the Maple Trees with its captivating beauty of bright-red leaves that cascade elegantly! The Crimson Queen Japanese Maple Tree (Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Crimson Queen') is not only used for its endless, elegance and beauty but also because Crimson Queen is smaller than other Maple trees!

With a gorgeous weeping form and finely dissected pointed leaves, the crimson foliage shines from spring until autumn! The spring form is accented by small red flowers that become cute little helicopters later in the growing season.

Unlike most queens, the Crimson Queen Japanese Maple is very low-maintenance and requires little attention if planted properly. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 8, and in the fall months, your tree erupts into a bright scarlet red vision!

Landscape Application:

Grown as a large cascading shrub or small mounded tree! Using this deciduous shrub as a small privacy is ideal and commonly used for that. This plant is also quite independent and loves being the center of attention as an ornamental shrubby tree!

Planting the tree along the driveway to your house will make you and your guests feel as if they’re driving through an enchanted forest with beautiful red tints. They typically are small in size usually between 8-10 feet and are good for filling gaps between other trees and shrubs.

Gorgeous specimens on their own, the lacy leaves add motion and texture to the landscape while the lyrical branching even stands out in the winter months! Prop yours up onto a raised berm or in a large raised planter to really showcase its beauty!

Create a pretty grouping of odd-numbered Crimson Queen Japanese Maples as a backdrop to a sculpture or garden bench, create a backdrop for your Rose Garden, or plant as the focal point among a formal garden, Asian-inspired meditation garden, or just as a prominent accent in your front yard for lasting curb appeal!

Have some fun and try your hand at creating Bonsai!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The love between this plant and the sun is mutual, so planting in full sun with well-drained soil is ideal. Choose a location with some afternoon shade in the hottest climates to prevent burning the leaves. To ensure that this plant is given even moisture we suggest a nice 3-4 inch layer of mulch over the roots keeping it away from the plant's stems.

Although this Japanese Maple Tree is fairly hardy, the mulch can also prevent pests and diseases from harming its beauty! Japanese Maple is known for its low-maintenance nature and once established, has a higher drought tolerance than other Japanese Maples, however, you'll have a better appearance in the long run and a less-stressed tree by providing supplemental moisture during these trying times. These deciduous trees only need to be pruned when dormant to remove dead or dying branches.

  • Full Sun & Some Afternoon Shade
  • Must Have Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs - Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune When Dormant If Needed
  • Low-Maintenance Deciduous Tree

Single Stem, Multi Stem, Shrub Form, Oh My!

Before you buy, make sure you know what you’re getting! Single-stem, multi-stem, and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we’re currently offering below.

Single Stem:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stems when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.

Multi Stem:

These are plants with 2 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times when multi-stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
