For an easy choice of small accent or specimen tree, just about anywhere in your landscape, you really can't go wrong with the Natchez Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Natchez'). This handsome variety features enormous, beautiful white blooms and many more ornamental features!

You'll love the long bloom period from summer to frost! With its crisp, clean good looks and pristine, fluffy white blooms, Natchez is a wonderful choice for you and your pollinators. Long panicles of pure white flowers cover the plant from top to bottom throughout the growing season. Natchez blooms all summer long and the blooms emit a soft, sweet fragrance! You might see them referred to as "Natchez Crepe Myrtle" because the texture of the robust flower heads looks like crinkled crepe paper!

Soft foliage droops enchantingly downward to help ground the plant to its surroundings. The oval Crape Myrtle leaves are bronze-colored when they first unfold in the spring. They'll deepen to a delicious green for summer and will cast a refreshing shade. The green leaves turn bright hues of yellow, orange, or red before falling late in autumn! If you remove the lower limbs and use a row of them as small street trees, you'll showcase the beautiful exfoliating bark and gain a big dose of winter interest.

Planting and Application:

Use Natchez Crape Myrtle trees in the front lawn as part of an accent planting. This is a sophisticated color choice that works very nicely with many exteriors. Try a pair of them on either side of the front walkway or front stairs. It only takes a few trees planted on either side to give you a dreamy experience. Plant the trees at least 8 feet away from the walkway, and carefully prune the arching branches to fit your space.

You'll also be able to grow it as a single-trunk patio tree or as a multi-trunk accent feature specimen. Use a single tree as a wonderful focal point anywhere you need a bit of excitement in your landscape. It will draw the eye in a restful way and can suit contemporary, country, rustic, or classic architecture equally as well.

You can even leave the lower branches on to encourage a solid, shrubby screen. This is a very appealing large shrub or small tree that can also be grouped to create a pretty privacy screen. Plant several near a patio or deck to block the afternoon sun and give airy, pretty privacy. Plant them 4 feet apart, measuring from the center of the first to the center of the next.

For the best screen, keep all the lower limbs on and allow it to grow into a friendly flowering shrub. Underplant with small shrubs, perennials, and spring bulbs. Add a natural stone border or boulders to easily boost your curb appeal. March a row of them along the street, or driveway. For individual plants, give them 10 - 12 feet spacing between the plants.

  • Incredible White Blooms Summer & Fall
  • Beautiful Rounded Shape - One of the Tallest, Largest Crape Myrtle
  • Glossy, Dark Green Feathery Foliage
  • Attractive Dark Cinnamon Brown Bark
  • Vibrant Orange Red Fall Color
  • Four Seasons of Interest
  • Large Shrub or Small Tree, Grow in Containers, Hedges & Screens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Easy care, and drought tolerant once established, Natchez Crape Myrtle is sought after for its beauty and low maintenance. Natchez Crape Myrtles are easy to grow in a full sun site. Morning sun is best, with its wonderful drying power.

Give your tree good air circulation and plenty of elbow room to grow to the full height and width. Keep things easy for yourself! Give your tree good air circulation and plenty of elbow room to grow to the full height and width. Keep things easy for yourself!

Pruning this beauty is best done by simply thinning out the branches each spring. No need to take care of the edges of the crown if it still fits into its space nicely! Top off your planting with a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch to keep the roots happy.

In early spring, give your Natchez Crape Myrtle supplemental water as needed. This will help ensure the new growth is lush and full. And since the plant flowers on new growth, the extra water will give you marvelous flower power through the summer and into fall.

The rest of the year, Natchez is happy to thrive in low water conditions. Soil drainage is an important consideration. Create a mound or berm if your soil drains slowly. Plant directly in that mound. Remember not to plant your Natchez too deeply in the ground.

Single Stem, Multi Stem, Shrub Form, Oh My!

Before you buy, make sure you know what you’re getting! Single stem, multi stem and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we’re currently offering below.

Single Stem:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.

Multi Stem:

These are plants with 2 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times multi stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.

The tree arrived well packaged and healthy

I just unpacked my new Natchez Crepe Myrtle and and it's a lovely specimen. The tree was just as described with a lovely branch structure already taking shape. I am going to plant it next to one of my decks for summer shade which is next to my chicken coop for the chickens to hide under from the hawks. I can't wait for spring to come to see it start growing. Thanks Nature Hills! -- San Rafael, California
