Description
Glossy near-black foliage and creamy white bells, the Blackout Coral Bells (Heuchera x 'Blackout') will add depth and drama to the garden beds and borders with textured, pointed-lobed leaves! With foliage so dark that it's nearly black, the dainty blooms of Blackout present a sharp, decorative contrast. The creamy white bells rise above the foliage on tall stalks in late spring and persist into early summer.
Pollinators and hummingbirds delight in these elegant little blooms and arrive to sip the nectar. You'll enjoy these blooms as well in your floral bouquets where they add graceful filler to arrangements. The textured foliage has lovely purple overtones to the near-black hue, never fading in the sun or heat!
Wonderfully urban environment tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant, and so easy to grow! These dramatic perennial plants are cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9 and tolerate heat and humidity too! Warmer climates and mild winters allows these perennials to keep their colorful leaves through the winter making them wonderfully semi-to-fully evergreen.
Planting and Application:
Blackout looks fantastic in the opposite of a moon garden, and adds a dark dimension to your shade garden beds and borders! These brooding space-saving perennials add their glossy foliage to the shade garden. Add low-growing enticing foliage to pathways and as accents that brighten everything around them! Combine with lime-green foliage or white variegated leaves for maximum effect!
Plant as a dark filler to container gardens and mixed planters! Add formal foliage to plants to garden walkways and paths by evenly spacing them with white crushed rock mulch. Or add these as dark pops of color in groupings throughout the Perennial border or a modern Cottage Garden. Perfect in the shade garden, Pollinator gardens and cut flower gardens gain a brilliant flowering ornamental that can keep its leaves through the winter for added interest!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Coral Bells do best in either full sun in cooler climates, or partial shade in warmer growing zones, but you'll have better color and more flowers in more sun. Plant in enriched, well-drained soil that remains moderately, consistently moist. But once established, Coral Bells can be drought tolerant, but appreciate a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch to hold in moisture and keep the roots cool. Prune back foliage in early spring before new growth begins.
Cold and drought tolerant and withstanding heat and humidity, nothing seems to faze this easy-care Perennial plant!
- Long-Lived in Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Adaptable to a Variety of Well-Drained Soils & Conditions
- Moderate Moisture Needs & Mulched Bed
- Prune Back in Early Spring
- Urban Environment Tolerant, Drought & Juglone Resistant
With a ten-year lifespan, Blackout Coral Bells is a great investment in a decorative perennial for your yard! Hardy, uniquely beautiful, and long-lived are characteristics that make this an ideal choice for this year's garden. Order yours today at Nature Hills before they're gone!
