Growing Zones 3-8
The White Swan Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea 'White Swan') is an easy-to-grow perennial flower that produces strikingly large, fragrant, and bright white daisies-like flowers. The flowers rise on sturdy stems above neat clumps of foliage from early summer into autumn.
A native cultivar of Coneflower, White Swan has prominent coppery-green central cones that are surrounded by pure white radial petals. These flower heads turn black as the seeds mature, adding further interest and contrast. Its rich nectar and pollen resources will lure butterflies and other beneficial insects in by the dozens!
Deadheading spent blooms can extend the bloom, and fill your vases in pretty white flowers. Keep some of the last flowers to go to seed in the fall so that you will have fall and winter texture, and plenty of seed heads which songbirds such as Goldfinches love to feed on.
Planting and Application:
These mid-sized perennials are fantastic specimens and focal point plantings, both in the ground and in patio and porch containers and mixed planters! Groupings gleam and mass plantings and rows become brilliant spectacles! No matter how many of these bright white flowers you plant, you'll rest knowing they are easy to grow and very low-maintenance!
Beautiful in the Cottage garden, adding lightness to a mixed Perennial border, and a must-have for the cutting garden, these tough perennials grow easily in the Rock Garden while glowing in the Moon garden! Regardless of where you plant them, you'll get butterflies, bees and beneficial insects galore!
Not only is it a prized perennial for many gardeners, but this variety is also a potent medicine. It has been reported that Echinacea increases immune function and reduces the effects of colds and flu.
- Large White Recurved Petals & Domed Bronzy Green Centers

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Growing throughout USDA hardiness zones 3 to 8, this herbaceous perennial needs full sun and well-drained soil. White Swan thrives in hot, dry conditions, and shrugs off cold. Provide regular moisture to new plants but once established, Echinacea are drought tolerant and low-water-usage plants. Mulch and regular fertilizer give them a boost.
If you've left your herbaceous perennials plantings to stand over the winter, just cut the stalks to an inch above ground level in early spring. Keep the flowers deadheaded to greatly increase the flowering. Coneflowers are almost maintenance-free, Echinacea is a native species that does well in most of the country with very little care, and these cultivars are just as tough. The White Swan Coneflower is a pest-resistant variety, which deer find unpalatable.
