Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

This perennial will grace whatever landscape it is added to with its elegant blooms and interesting foliage! Forming mounds of lacy compound leaves with rounded lobes in blue-green all growing season long!

The lovely blue-green foliage adds texture year-round, and even fall color, to any of your perennial beds. The mix of colors and its low-growing habit make this special Columbine stand out from the rest! Cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 7, Biedermeier grows just 12-18 inches tall and 12 inches wide.

Planting and Application:

Quickly naturalizing and filling sweeping areas with their unique leaves and multi-colored flowers, Biedermeier can be contained by deadheading right after they finish blooming. Feel free to use them as a cut flower, to enjoy in your favorite vase! Used individually, in small groupings, or massed together to create a stunning explosion of extended color!

The Biedermeier Columbine can be used in many applications, like Rock gardens and mixed perennial gardens! They look great as a filler in garden beds or in containers, as edging along pathways, beds, and borders, in Cottage gardens and Butterfly gardens. It attracts bees and hummingbirds, but deer tend to leave it alone.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The Biedermeier Columbine is an easy-to-grow perennial that should be planted in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soil for best results. Columbines prefer a good layer of mulch or compost over their root systems. Columbines are a profuse self-seeder, so it is recommended for these to be planted 12 to 18 inches apart. The planting area could double in a few years because of the prolific reseeding characteristics of this plant. You can halt this by deadheading, and simultaneously encouraging a rebloom later in the season! Prune back the foliage in late autumn as soon as it dies back. Deer and rabbits, Columbines are also pest and disease-resistant.

  • Full Sun, Afternoon Shade & Partial Shade
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Regular Moisture & Appreciates Mulch
  • Deadhead & Prune Late Autumn
  • Pest, Deer & Rabbit Resistant
