Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Size | Actual Volume | Metric Equivalent |
---|---|---|
2" x 2" x 3" | 0.18 - 0.21 dry quarts | 0.20 - 0.23 dry liters |

- Shrubs & Perennials: 1 foot, 18 inches, 2 feet
Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Transform your landscape with these scintillating double Roses, which are massed together in large Floribunda heads for a bold display. Chi™ Rose catches the eye of all who see it!
Upright Chi™ Rose Shrub is blessed with an abundance of vigor. Snip the blooms at their peak for your interior tablescapes. Just a couple of clusters create a wildly romantic indoor arrangement that looks like you spent hours on! Be sure to include some of the dark green foliage as a lovely contrast. With Chi™ Rose, you'll have plenty of blooms to bring to the office, and to present to friends. Keep your eye out for sales on vases, and donate bouquets to hospitals and retirement homes.
Gift someone you love with a Chi™ Rose bush! It costs the same as a dozen long-stem Roses, but the emotional connection will last far longer. With Easy Elegance® Roses, you know you are getting the hardiest and lowest maintenance flowering shrub possible! The plant scientists at Easy Elegance® Roses are focused on bringing easy-care options to market!
This is not an old-fashioned fussy Rose that requires a heavy schedule of maintenance. It's easy enough for even beginning gardeners to grow. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 7, this mid-sized deciduous flowering shrub brings three seasons of enjoyment to your landscape!
How to Use Easy Elegance® Chi™ Rose in the Landscape
Take time to adorn your environment with its beauty and you'll be rewarded with a welcome feeling of abundance and joy. Plant a Rose hedge in the ground, or keep it in large outdoor containers to decorate your small space garden. You'll want to show these clear red blooms off.
Even if you have a tiny or rented property, create a moment of bliss with a single Chi™ Shrub Rose as a "Thriller" in an outdoor planter! The flower power starts in early summer and continues in flushes through the first frost of fall.
On a larger lot, create mass plantings to bring color and structure. Harmonize them in high-profile areas near your outdoor seating or by your front steps. Chi™ Roses bring a confident look to mature foundation plantings, as well! Expand the mulched bed to align them in front of existing evergreen shrubs. They work beautifully in front of "leggy" shrubs that need a facer plant. Cultivate a polished presentation with their abundant flower clusters and pristine foliage.
Connect a row of Chi™ Landscaping Shrub Roses by planting two feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. For faster results, add a second row staggered behind the first. Commercial property owners should take note. This beautiful Rose brings happiness and helps advertise your good taste.
Butterflies love Chi™ Roses, too! Include these throughout your mixed borders and Butterfly Gardens. Even a single plant becomes a wonderful focal point. Mindfully notice it every day and you'll be rewarded with a resilient sense of satisfaction.

#ProPlantTips for Care
Plant easy-care Chi™ Roses where they'll get plenty of air circulation and sunshine. Morning sun is best, and they'll need at least six or more hours of full sun a day. Give them well-drained soil that doesn't stay soggy after a rainfall. Add additional soil three feet wide by 18 inches high to elevate your Chi™ if you need to improve drainage. Schedule a moderate amount of water for your Roses. Try to water at the base of the plant, rather than wet the foliage and spread a 3-4 inch layer of mulch to help reduce dirt splashing onto the leaves. This helps reduce the spread of disease and keeps your foliage clean.
Order Nature Hills Root Booster to help your long-lived Roses access micronutrients. This time-tested formula contains mycorrhizal fungus to create a symbiotic relationship with tiny feeder roots and never wears out.
In early spring and mid-summer, apply a slow-release fertilizer for flowering plants. Follow the application rates on the label, please. In late fall, rake and bag all leaf litter from underneath the plant. Prune them down to eight inches in early spring just as they start to wake back up. What Is The Best Month to Plant Roses?
You can plant Roses any time if you can provide enough consistent moisture and attention. The easiest times of the year to get Rose bushes established in your landscape are in spring after the last frost date, and in fall about 4-6 weeks before the first frost.
