Verdant and reliable, the Carnival™ series Cocomint Coral Bells (Heuchera x 'Carnival Cocomint') is a winner as a front-of-border plant, mass planting, or edging. If you're looking for a low-mounding, attractive plant that won't brown in mild winters, look no further!

Why do landscapers turn to this plant time and time, again? Cocomint Coral Bell leaves are evenly lobed and richly colored. They feature deep veins that can vary in color from leaf to leaf. Some have yellow veins outlined with deep purple while others have light green veins with yellowish or green outlines. The foliage has a silvery sheen that adds depth and interest.

The Cocomint Coral Bells produce tiny bell-shaped white flowers in late spring to summer. These dainty blooms dangle high atop delicate stems above the low base of the foliage. These adorable flowers aren't just cute, their tiny cupped blossoms are perfect for Hummingbirds. Other winged beauties also frequent these flowers. Butterflies and bumblebees enjoy stopping by the Cocomint Coral Bells for a nectar-rich snack, as well.

It can be difficult to find a shade-loving plant with bold colors and even foliage. Cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9 and grows around a foot tall and wide. Deer-resistant, humidity and cold-tolerant, and easy to grow, Heuchera are easy to grow for even the most novice gardener!

Planting and Application:

The Carnival Coral Bells grow in low-lying space-saving mounds which makes it ideal as a front-of-border plant for your garden. It also looks lovely as an edging which will attract attention with its variegated coloring. Great in containers and planters as fillers and spillers, they ramble throughout the shade garden or as frilly facer plants and edging along pathways and the driveway.

Pretty throughout the Cottage garden, Perennial border, and Pollinator border, but tough enough for Rock Garden, and in rows along your drive. For a lively and attractive mass planting, group several Cocomints in a hard-to-reach area of your yard. If you have a shady spot where other plants struggle, Coral Bells will rise to the occasion!

  • Highly Variegated Foliage - Silvery, Green, Light Green & Burgundy
  • Mounding Clump-Forming Ornamental
  • Bell-Shaped White Flowers For Pollinators
  • Lovely Shade Gardens, Containers & Cut Flowers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant these Perennials do well in partial shade and enriched, well-drained soil with regular moisture. To keep Coral Bells happy, water them well in the heat of summer and the winter months. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system. Coral Bells should be cut back in the early spring, and in fall, and divide every 3-5 years to maintain vigor. Tolerating heat and humidity, it is low-maintenance and performs well even in the South where it can display evergreen tendencies. This plant is deer-resistant and drought-resistant once established. It also does well in heat and around well-traveled areas of the yard.

  • Partial Shade
  • Vigorous Growth in Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Prune In Early Spring

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prune Coral Bells?

Coral Bells need partial sun/shade or full shade in warmer climates. They do best in the morning sun to dry the leaves of dew and afternoon shade to provide relief from the hot summer sun.

Do Coral Bells spread?

Coral Bells can spread into tidy mounds about 2-3 feet in width but do not spread by rhizomes or stolons further than where they're planted.

Where do Coral Bells grow best?

Coral Bells love a shaded site in enriched soil that is well-drained. They appreciate regular moisture and a mulched root zone.

Do Coral Bells attract hummingbirds?

Coral Bells are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.

What pairs with Coral Bells?

These shade-loving perennials pair with lacy Astilbe and Ferns, other coarse foliage plants like Hosta, and the lobed foliage of Columbines! Try pairing with Barrenworts and Bergenia too!
