The Candy Cane Sorrel (Oxalis versicolor) is a bulbous perennial with showy white and red pinstriped trumpet-like blooms! While not a Shamrock like the typical three-lobed leaves you’d expect, this hybrid Sorrel has three long slender leaflets, creating a finer-textured appearance.

Often grown as an annual accent or unique forced winter houseplant, Candy Cane has a bushy, clumping, spreading habit that looks great in container gardens! The overlapping petals and white with red-edged spirals as they open during the day, then close at night.

Commonly called a Shamrock or Wood Sorrel, Candy Cane grows just 6-10 inches tall and spreads a bit wider, Oxalis is fast-growing and easy to grow! Growing throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, but can remain perennial in warmer climates.

Planting and Application:

Showing off their bold color and fine-textured foliage best in groupings and long rows, use Candy Cane Sorrel as borders and edging plants throughout the sunny landscape. Great annual accents in the garden, Sorrel can be hardy perennial bulbs in warmer growing zones where it naturalizes easily.
