The Nanho Blue Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii 'Nanho Blue') is hands down one of the most striking of all of the Butterfly Bushes! This isn't the typical purple, lavender, or rose Buddleia, this is a gentian blue that looks brilliant all season long!
Just like its name says, this shrub is a siren call to beneficial pollinators and butterflies, and are even irresistible to Hummingbirds! They will be drawn to your Nanho Blue from all over the garden! Plant this where you can watch all the action and enjoy the sweet captivating fragrance of the tightly packed little florets that make up each pointed flower cluster.
Buddleia, or Butterfly Bush, has been a garden sensation for centuries! They took the garden world by storm when they were first planted in England's Kew Gardens in the 1880s. These shrubs grow from the ground to four or five feet tall in one season with hundreds of arching flowers covering the plants from summer to frost like a fountain!
Nanho is hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9 and handles full sun all day without fading or shrinking away. Xeric once established, these are highly adaptable and forgiving shrubs that will delight you all growing season long!
Planting and Application:
Plant as a gorgeous specimen throughout the sun landscape for unusual blue hues and long-lasting color all summer until frost! Maximize this flowering shrub by planting multiples of Nanho Blue together in groupings, as back-of-the-border plantings, or evenly spaced along a sunny pathway!
Even mixing this captivating plant with other colors makes its beauty shine endlessly! This plant will be sure to stand out no matter what! The vivid blue mixes well with lavenders, white, pink of all shades, and stands out among orange and yellow!
These are must-haves in the Cut flower garden, the Pollinator border, and throughout mixed shrub borders for long-lasting summer-to-fall-color and nectar resources! Every Rock garden, sunny Cottage and Perennial border, mixed shrub hedge, or as a focal point anchoring a foundation hedge at the corner of your home are all ideal locations for these hardy, and easy-going flowering plants!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Site your Buddleia in full sun with well-drained soil to ensure your shrub is off on the right foot. You’ll also want to plant with Nature Hills Root Booster for symbiotic support at the roots for life! Water well during the first year to help it get established, but cut back on the watering after unless there hasn't been adequate rainfall in the summers. Mulching with arborist bark chips 3-4 inches deep around the root system will help regulate temperatures and conserve water.
In warmer climates, it can grow to 10 feet tall. In cold winter areas, it will die to the ground like an herbaceous Perennial, but come back even stronger in the spring! Deadhead or snip blossoms for bouquets to encourage rebloom until frost and keep the shrub tidier looking.
Plant with confidence because these shrubs are seldom eaten by deer and Nature Hills uses Plant Sentry™ to ensure we only ship plants into areas where they won't get into trouble.
- Full Sun Shrub/Perennial
- Needs Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
- Appreciates Mulch & Deadheading
- Deer Seldom Eat These - Hardy & Disease Resistant
Make sure to order more than one Nanho Blue Butterfly Bush, because you will be so happy with its performance that you'll want to start your own butterfly garden! Order today at NatureHills.com before they're gone!
