Boxwood Care & Maintenance
- Sun Needs: Boxwood thrives in full sun to partial shade. In hotter climates, some afternoon shade can prevent leaf scorch.
- Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Avoid heavy clay or overly wet areas.
- Watering: Provide consistent watering during the first growing season to establish roots. Once mature, it is moderately drought-tolerant.
- Winter Protection: These evergreens need some wind protection in winter if grown on an exposed site, otherwise, you can treat them with wilt-stop and it's recommended you water these shrubs very well in the fall to prepare them for winter.
- Pruning: Prune or shear in late spring or early summer after the first flush of growth to maintain its shape.
- Mulching: Add a 3-4 inch layer of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
