Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Size | Actual Volume | Metric Equivalent |
---|---|---|
2" x 2" x 3" | 0.18 - 0.21 dry quarts | 0.20 - 0.23 dry liters |

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Growing Zones 4-7
Ghostly hue against the green, the Blue Cloak White Fir Tree (Abies concolor 'Blue Cloak') is an incredible new take on the beautiful White Fir! Forming a dense and narrow pyramidal form, this variety of Concolor Fir has gracefully drooping branches that are covered in powder blue needles and light blue-green new growth!
Despite being quite spikey, the effect and combination of the color give this specimen tree a very soft look and hazy fine texture among other landscape additions! The needles wrap around the entire stem as it lazily droops from the strong, central trunk, inviting birds and wildlife to nest and roost in its dense shelter.
White Fir Trees are coniferous evergreens that keep their foliage year-round! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 through 7, Fir Trees are wonderfully cold-tolerant! Growing 10-18 feet in height and spreading 4-7 feet wide (wider at the base and pointed at the top), Blue Cloak won't overpower your yard like some other Fir or Conifer trees!
Planting and Application:
This incredible specimen lights up a darker evergreen and tree or shrub border with its bright silvery blue foliage! The fine texture appears mist-like against a home with dark siding and adds character to your property with its unique color appeal!
Blue Cloak is a smaller-sized tree and won't outgrow its garden beds or borders, nor shade out much of your lawn! The constant needles all year long provide sound and wind blocking, hide unpleasant views and nosy neighbors, and wrap you in cool-hued privacy!
- Gorgeous Glaucous SIlvery Powder Blue Needles
- Pyramid-Shaped Smaller-Sized Conifer
- Wildlife & Bird-Friendly
- Gorgeous Light Blue-Green New Candles

#ProPlantTips For Care
Blue Cloak White Fir Trees are slower-growing specimens but that should translate to low maintenance for you! Growing slowly and steadily in full sun, Fir trees do best in any kind of well-drained soil with consistent moisture access until established. Older trees only need supplemental moisture during dry winters and hot summer months. Mulch roots with 3-4 inches of arborist bark chips to keep them moist throughout the summer and insulated all winter.
- Full Sun
- Moderate Consistent Moisture
- Adaptable to Any Well-Drained Soil
- Rarely Needs Pruning
- Very Low Maintenance
