Private Jet™ Arborvitae: Dense, Upright, Evergreen Elegance

The Bloomin' Easy® Private Jet® Arborvitae USPP#29678, CPBR6660 (Thuja occidentalis 'King of Brabant') is a polished, refined selection of American Arborvitae bred for landscape luxury. This upright, narrow evergreen stays dense and columnar without pruning, flaunting fan-like sprays of deep green foliage all year long. Private Jet™ is prized for its symmetry, cold-hardiness, and deer resistance—making it a top-tier choice for privacy screens and formal plantings!

This cultivar grows in a sleek, vertical habit, typically reaching 15-20 feet tall and 5-6 feet wide at maturity, forming a natural privacy wall or a bold focal point. Its scale-like, rich green leaves grow on flattened sprays, emitting a light, fresh scent when crushed. In winter, the foliage retains its green vibrance with little to no bronzing, making it an evergreen that stays genuinely green through every season.

Hailing from the native Eastern/American Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis), Private Jet™ carries the botanical resilience of its forebears. It's hardy in USDA Zones 3-7 and thrives in full sun to part shade. Bred by Bloomin' Easy® for dense growth without shearing, this is a choice conifer for cold northern climates and humid zones alike. It symbolizes strength and shelter and, true to its name, elevates landscapes with first-class style.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does Private Jet™ Arborvitae grow?

  • Private Jet™ Arborvitae is considered a fast-growing evergreen tree, making it an excellent choice for homeowners who want quick privacy screening and landscape impact. This superior cultivar typically grows 12-18 inches per year under optimal conditions, significantly faster than traditional arborvitae varieties. Its rapid growth rate makes it ideal for creating natural privacy fences, windbreaks, and adding vertical interest to your landscape design without the long wait times associated with slower-growing evergreens.

What is the mature size of Private Jet™ Arborvitae?

  • Private Jet™ Arborvitae reaches an impressive mature height of 15-20 feet with a narrow spread of 4-5 feet wide. This compact, columnar growth habit makes it perfect for tight spaces, property line plantings, and creating dense privacy screens. The tree's naturally narrow profile means you can plant multiple specimens closer together for maximum privacy coverage while minimizing the footprint in your yard.

Does Private Jet™ Arborvitae maintain its green color in winter?

  • Yes, Private Jet™ Arborvitae is renowned for its exceptional winter color retention. Unlike many arborvitae varieties that turn bronze, brown, or yellow during cold winter months, Private Jet™ maintains its rich, deep green foliage year-round. This superior winter hardiness and color stability make it an outstanding choice for four-season landscape interest and continuous privacy screening, even in harsh winter climates.

Is Private Jet™ Arborvitae resistant to deer damage?

  • Private Jet™ Arborvitae offers excellent deer resistance, particularly once the plants are established and mature. Like most arborvitae varieties, the naturally aromatic foliage acts as a deterrent to deer and other browsing animals. This deer-resistant quality makes it an ideal landscaping choice for suburban and rural properties where deer pressure is a concern, allowing you to maintain beautiful evergreen privacy screens without constant worry about wildlife damage.

Can you trim and shape Private Jet™ Arborvitae into hedges?

  • Absolutely! While Private Jet™ Arborvitae naturally develops into a dense, columnar shape, it responds well to light pruning and shearing for hedge formation. The best time to prune arborvitae is in early spring before new growth begins. Regular, light trimming can help maintain the desired height and shape for formal hedge applications. However, its naturally dense growth habit often requires minimal shaping compared to other evergreen hedge plants.

What USDA hardiness zones are suitable for Private Jet™ Arborvitae?

  • Private Jet™ Arborvitae thrives in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 7, demonstrating exceptional cold tolerance and adaptability across diverse climate conditions. This wide hardiness range makes it suitable for northern climates with harsh winters as well as more temperate regions. Whether you're landscaping in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, or as far south as North Carolina, Private Jet™ Arborvitae can provide reliable evergreen performance.

Private Jet™ vs Emerald Green Arborvitae: What's the difference?

  • Private Jet™ Arborvitae offers several advantages over the popular Emerald Green variety. Key differences include faster growth rates, denser branching structure, superior cold hardiness, and better winter color retention. While Emerald Green arborvitae grows 6-9 inches annually, Private Jet™ achieves 12-18 inches per year. Private Jet™ also requires less maintenance pruning due to its naturally compact growth habit and performs better in zones 3-4 where Emerald Green may struggle with winter damage.

Will Private Jet™ Arborvitae grow in clay soil conditions?

  • Yes, Private Jet™ Arborvitae demonstrates good tolerance for clay soil conditions, provided the soil has adequate drainage. While these evergreens prefer well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil, they can adapt to heavier clay soils that don't remain waterlogged. For optimal growth in clay soil, consider amending with organic matter or creating raised planting areas to improve drainage. Proper soil preparation will ensure your Private Jet™ Arborvitae thrives and provides years of beautiful evergreen screening.
