A relative newcomer, the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Hot Pink Bloom-a-thon® Azalea (Rhododendron x 'RLH1-11P1') was first introduced in 2012. It blooms with all of its sister Azaleas in April and May for 4-6 weeks! Then it will re-bloom in the summer and fall for an additional 12-16 weeks, often right up until the first frost for a three-season-long pollinator-friendly 'bloom-a-thon'!

The flowers are a ravishing hot pink that both blends in with and stand out from other Azaleas. And they absolutely smother the bush in color. The improvements will be obvious as they are very easy growing, disease resistant, maintain excellent color year-round, and are strong growing plants with lots of trusses of blooms! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 9, these rounded evergreen plants grow 2 - 4 feet in height and 1 - 4 feet wide and just a bit less in width at maturity in optimal conditions.

Planting and Application:

These are great evergreen hedges! They don't grow too large and give you great color most of the year. Since their leaves stay deep green all year long, they work exceptionally well as foundation shrubs and make walls of color if you plant them in groups in beds and borders.

Bloom-a-Thon® Hot Pink will also work great in a container. Large planters and containers work for these plants, especially if you have poor drainage. Any shaded-to-sun location in the landscape is ideal for this easy-to-love and care-for flowering ornamentals! The showy color alone makes them deserving as a specimen plant and garden focal point! Bloom-a-Thon® Azaleas can handle more sun than many other Azaleas. Leaf scorch doesn't seem to be as much of a problem as with the strict shade-loving Azaleas. Azaleas are long-lived classics in the garden. It's drought-tolerant once established and requires little care beyond well-drained soil. Plant in full sun, partial shade, or morning sun and afternoon shade.

Best in rich soil that is mulched so their shallow root systems do not dry out, ensuring they are not in soggy sites. Berm the area by 18-24 inches and plant directly into this mound if you suspect poor drainage. This Rhododendron family member is an extremely hardy evergreen Azalea and needs very little care or pruning, but if you do, prune immediately after flowering only. After bloom, it adapts very well to pruning to augment the plant's natural mounding habit.
