Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Need a mighty native tree that you are sure no one else in the neighborhood has? Look into the Blackjack Oak Tree (Quercus marilandica) and enjoy its bristly, lobed leaves that sport shiny surfaces with rusty-yellow hairy undersides. The two-tone effect looks fantastic waving in the wind!
The rosy new growth is highly anticipated each spring as the long catkins of greenish-yellow flowers appear and attract loads of butterflies and bees looking for some nectar. The strong limbs and leafy shelter provide birds protection while roosting during the dormant season.
Featuring nearly black bark that's rough, blocky, and resembles alligator skin, Blackjack Oaks form unique rounded lobed leaves that flare out wider at the ends with narrow bases. Accented by densely-growing contorted limbs, these are ideal firescaping trees because of their thick bark that protects them.
Fall color arrives and graces your glossy foliage with rusty reddish-purple hues. Then persisting all winter for rustling sounds and winter interest! Blackjack Oak acorns ripen between September to October, and your wildlife will enjoy the yellow-brown nuts sporting turban-shaped acorn caps!
Planting and Application:
Majestic shade and street trees, their form is informal and sometimes appear scrubby when young. Give them room to develop their attractive, symmetrical form. These ornamental trees act as wonderful screens and borders, hedgerows, and shelterbelts for wildlife to nest, shelter, and feed in!
Highly adaptable, the tree itself is a boon to insect-eaters and their hungry chicks! Oaks are Host Plants for hundreds of butterfly and moth caterpillars! Squirrels, chipmunks, and waterfowl enjoy these acorns.
The Blackjack Oaks' impressive presence in your landscape is outdone only by the sheer number of birds and beneficial insects that flock to this tree! Growing 20-40 feet in height and width, you'll love the cooling and money-saving shade these trees provide you and your home is well worth the wait!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Oak Trees grow best in full sun and are often found growing in the poorest soils. Low moisture needs once established, in nature, these native trees thrive in sandy soils and hardpans and tolerate acidic soil conditions. Add Nature Hills Root Booster for lifelong root support. Give new trees regular moisture and a good staking system to maintain straight trunks. Slow-growing, hardy, and adaptable, these long-lived specimens can be found throughout USDA zones 6 through 9 and appreciate pruning during the winter or early spring before new growth emerges.
- Full Sun Trees
- Poor to Average, Well-Drained Soils on the Acidic Side
- Average to Low Moisture Once Established
- Drought Tolerant & Responds to Mulching Well
