Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

You'll love the contrast of dark leaves and bright blooms when you buy a Black Diamond® Lavender Lace™ Crape Myrtle PP 27335 (Lagerstroemia indica 'CS2012-12') for your landscape! Bright pinkish-purple papery flower clusters just pop against the dark purple foliage of this fantastic upright shrub, further accented by glowing yellow centers on each little floret that makes up the big flouncy blooms!

The dramatic dark foliage is the perfect counterpoint to the lacy bright purple blossoms! Setting the stage for other plants around it as well to contrast against their greenery. Pollinators and Hummingbirds will come out of the woodwork and you'll feel guilty stealing a few stems for your bouquets! But you'll get over it when new blooms keep popping for a long-lasting floral display! Lavender Lace™ has dramatic blooms that can last right up until frost in many regions!

Black Diamond® Crape Myrtles are truly easy-care and so versatile in the landscape! Hardy shrubs throughout USDA plant hardiness zones 7-10, these mid-sized flowering ornamentals grow into full and upright 8-12 foot tall bushes that only spread 6-8 feet in width! You can of course prune them smaller to fit your needs!

Planting and Application:

Lavender Lace™ loving the sun as much as you do, plant a hedge of Crape shrubs around your poolside seating or outdoor entertaining rooms for lush privacy and butterfly-friendly blooms galore! Create unique Cottage gardens with a modern twist of this shrubs dark foliage, or add some drama to the Mixed Shrub border.

Lavender Lace™ looks fantastic mixed and matched with other Black Diamond® Crape Myrtles! You can let these shrubs grow naturally into their rounded form with the branching to the ground for maximum privacy. Try mixing Lavender Lace™ with Purely Purple™ and Mystic Magenta™

You'll love watching traffic slow down as they drive past your yard lined with a row of Black Diamond® Crapes screening your front yard off from the sidewalk, or a row lining your driveway and creating friendly fences! Use these long-bloomers as backdrops and property defining hedges!

Go bold by creating a tree-form of your Lavender Lace™ by exposing the lower third of the multi-trunked growth and create a gorgeous specimen! Plant a tree-form Crape as a crown jewel to a landscape bed, soften the corner of your home's foundation with a flowering accent tree, or set one on a raised berm in your front yard for a long-lasting and colorful focal point! Lavender Lace™ can also be planted in an oversized, decorative, outdoor container on your deck or patio!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

When planting Crape Myrtle shrubs in the ground, look for a location that has full sun and well-drained soil. Water new plants regularly during the first season to get the roots established, then extend the period between watering during the second season to encourage deep root development.

Crape Myrtle responds well to mulching to hold in moisture more consistently and insulate the roots. Cover the ground to 3 to 4 inches deep to 3 feet outside the canopy.

All Crape Myrtles flowers on new wood. This is great, because it means that even heavy pruning in late winter or early spring will not affect this season's flowers. Learn how to avoid Crape-murder when pruning your Crape Myrtle. Deadhead after flowers fade to encourage new blooms and extend your flowering season, and wait until late winter or early spring to prune for size and shape.

In Zone 6, this versatile plant will behave as a perennial in the ground and regrow from the roots in the spring. Place a layer of straw around the crown of the plant in the winter to ensure it returns, even in the coldest years. In spring, simply trim off any old winter-damaged wood and prepare for new growth.

  • Full Sun
  • Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • About Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Blooms on New Wood - Prune in Early Spring
  • Highly Mildew Resistant & Deer Seldom Bother Them
  • Low Maintenance & Easy-Care
  • Use as a Colorful Annual in Zones 3 - 5
