Introducing the National Audubon Society line of native plants and trees that are specifically selected to help birds and wildlife in your area! Use the native Audubon® Native Silver Maple Tree (Acer saccharinum) for incredibly fast-growing trees with dense shade perfect for birds!
One of the most popular shade trees in the United States. Because these trees grow so fast, they are popular suburban shade trees! Perhaps you grew up with one in your front yard that became a big, mature specimen.
Our best recommendation is to use this vase-shaped, native tree further out in the yard, or in a mixed grouping with other native and Maple Trees on wide, open properties. If you are interested in learning more about where to correctly plant your larger growing trees, Read Our Blog!
Planting and Application:
Silver Maple grows large and must have room to spread. These are very fast-growing and large-growing with deeply cut lobed, bright green leaves with a silvery underside. These fine-textured leaves fill out quite densely - casting a deep shade, creating fast windbreaks and shelterbelts.
The effect of the silver coloring is striking and sets it apart from the other trees in your yard. Even its rounded, open crown provides a lovely silhouette behind the other plantings in the landscape. Your Silver Maple will be full of birds as they seek shelter and food among the foliage!
- Fast-Growing Shade Tree - Can Reach 25 Feet Tall in 10 Years
- Benefit & Attracts: Chickadee, Cardinal, Grosbeak, Finch, Owl, Duck, & Woodpecker
- Specimen, Windbreak Tree, Shelterbelt & Caterpillar Host Plant
- Hardy Native to North America & Long-Lived to 130 Years
