Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that helps birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The Audubon® Native Pawpaw Tree (Asimina triloba) is a hardy beneficial native tree that’s been a hidden gem and tropical-tasting fruit-bearing shade tree for ages!

Also known as the Paw Paw these are incredibly beneficial native trees that attract a vast array of bird species. The sheltering limbs, exotic-looking foliage and tropical flavored fruit all combine into the fantastic features of this easy-care shade tree! Add a touch of fall foliage, and you can enjoy a long-lasting shade tree!

Unfortunately, Paw Paw Trees aren’t self-fertile. Their dark purplish-red, unique blossoms do need hand pollination or another Paw Paw variety in order to set fruit. The blooms however do attract flocks of pollinators and hummingbirds!

Planting and Application:

The flavorful fruit has creamy, custardy flesh, has a few large seeds that are easily removed. For your backyard birds, these trees are a late-season bounty of food before the long winter!

Plant as an understory native tree where Paw Paws enjoy the protection of partial shade, or as a specimen tree in full sun, where you’ll enjoy more fruit from it and its pollinator tree.

  • Naturally Disease Resistant!
  • Hardy, Adaptable & Cold Tolerant
  • Mulch Well to Insulate & Keep Roots Hydrated
  • Requires Full Sun & Different Paw Paw Species for fruit
  • Prune in Late Winter or Very Early Spring

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Full sun for the most fruit, but tolerating partial sun and partial shade, Paw Paw trees prefer any type of well-drained soil with moderate fertility.

  • Thrives in Cold Weather & Disease Resistant
  • Fast Growth Rate
  • Tolerates Black Walnut Juglone
  • Part Sun Favoring Morning Sun & Afternoon Shade
  • Prune When Dormant
