Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

We’re proud to introduce the National Audubon Society line of native trees that have been selected to help birds and wildlife in your area! The Audubon® Native American Sweetgum Tree (Liquidambar styraciflua) is a gorgeous Ornamental tree! This majestic national treasure is a fantastic choice in both residential or commercial landscapes.

Blooming March-May, with showy yellow and orange spires at the ends of each branch, waiving upright to beckon pollinators to your landscape! With star-shaped foliage in dazzling green, each leaf has dramatically notched margins. Incredible Fall Color Trees, these turn fiery reds, plum purples, spiced gold, and harvest orange to celebrate the end of the season!

The ornamental spiky “gumballs” that hang from the branches add to their interest. Avoid planting these spikey seedpods around high traffic areas, however, the Sweet Gum is a superior Shade Tree! And you’ll feel good about feeding local songbirds those famous Sweetgum seed balls.

Planting and Application:

The unique foliage and spectacular fall show make Sweetgum special focal points for your landscape!. Beautifully setting off outdoor firepit and seating areas while shading your home. Plus they are hardy natives that support Backyard Birds and wildlife!

Providing shelter and food, these trees play host to a wide array of caterpillars, which make up an important part of birds’ diets, especially when they are raising their young. Valuable Bird-Friendly trees, the funky seeds ripen to become a plethora of tiny birdfeeder ornaments!

  • Caterpillar Host Plant for Luna & Promethea Moths & More
  • Upright, Stately Form & Star-Shaped Leaves
  • Fall Color Even in Hot Climates - Vibrant Mix of Red, Orange, Purple and Yellow
  • Sap Used for Chewing Gum in the Past
  • Finches, Red-Winged Blackbirds, Chickadees, Titmice, Sparrows, Doves, Towhees & Juncos

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Sweetgum Trees do best in Zones 5-9 in the full sun. With a fast growth rate and hardiness that adapts to a wide range of climates and conditions. Prune early spring before your tree starts growing because the sap can be sticky, but this sap was once made into chewing gum, so try tapping your tree for a tasty treat!

  • Full Sun, Partial Shade
  • Break-Resistant Branches
  • Low Maintenance & Pest Resistant
  • Tolerates Moist Soils & Periodic Drought

The Audubon® Native American Sweetgum Tree is easy to grow and puts on height fast for shade in a hurry! Order yours from our native tree specialists at NatureHills.com today!
