Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age

Growing Zones 3-8
The Asparagus Jersey Giant (Asparagus 'Jersey Giant') a spring-planted herbaceous root, produces large quantities of quality spears of green Asparagus. The spears can be up to 7 to 9 inches long and they grow profusely on vigorous plants. They are very tasty and meaty!
These are a male hybrid with lovely green spears and purple-tinged spears and new growth, these hold color when cooked and are packed with nutrients and fiber! Fresh, juiced, steamed, or baked, the mild yet unique flavor is accented by lemon, bacon, or Rosemary, and goes great with meat and pasta!
Jersey Giant is a very productive plant and yields 2-4 times more spears than other varieties. Cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 8, these spears turn into airy clouds of fine-textured dainty green foliage if you do not harvest them. Growing to a 4-5 foot tall clump that can spread to 12-18 inches wide.
Planting and Application:
Plant in cut flower gardens and among Roses or Perennials as lacy backdrops and frilly filler for vase arrangements! Usually, Asparagus has tiny yellowish flowers, but this variety is a male plant that won't produce seeds. Companion plants for Asparagus are Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant, Strawberries, and many different herbs.
The big meaty spears are flavorful and mild but are a superfood that are perennial additions to the vegetable and kitchen gardens alike. Add the airy foliage of older plants looks great in cut flower bouquets or in garden beds and borders as a back-of-the-border airy backdrop.
- Thick Tender Edible Spears
- Green With Purple Tinges
- Vigorous & Profuse Growth
- Perennial Vegetable With Loads of Nutrients
- Airy Green Foliage if not Harvested
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Asparagus needs plenty of room to grow and spread underground, so provide a sunny and well-drained plot with fluffy enriched soil. If you have very soggy soil or poor drainage, plant the Asparagus roots in a raised bed to increase drainage. Plant bareroot Asparagus 1-foot apart in rows 4 feet apart, about 6-8 inches deep. Water well and provide moderate moisture once established.
- Very Frost Hardy 2-9 in Partial Shade
- Average to Sandy Well-Drained Soil
- Regular Moisture Needs
- Harvest While Finger to Pencil in Girth
- Prune Back Unharvested Foliage in Late Autumn
- Disease Resistant
Delicious and nutritious, the Jersey Giant Asparagus plant is one of the few perennial garden vegetables available in cold growing zones! Order your plants and bareroot Asparagus today from NatureHills.com and we'll ship as soon as it's prime planting season in your growing zone!
