Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 5-9
Bring on the bees and butterflies! APrystine® Japanese Snowbell flowering shrub (Styrax japonicus 'SJMTF') is a compact deciduous flowering tree with vase-shaped, upward sweeping columnar branching, and a tight oval crown. The smooth grey bark fissures as it matures but it's usually densely packed with elliptical deep green, glossy foliage all growing season long!
Japanese Snowbell is a favorite flowering shrub purchase due to its abundant white, pendulous flowers! Snow-white and five-petaled blossoms grow in clusters by the dozens across its branches. Depending on the weather, this flowering tree can show signs of new flowers as soon as early spring but typically starts to bloom between late spring and early summer. As the summer passes, these bell-shaped flowers give way to a splash of yellow or red fall color, and olive green decorative fruit called drupes. Then it's time to bring on the birds!
As this deciduous tree ages, its bark starts to exfoliate and reveal mottled orange streaks beneath the gray outer surface. This feature becomes prominent during the winter, contributing color and interest during an otherwise monochrome time of year. Wonderfully heat and cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, Snowbells are showy year-round!
Planting and Application:
APrystine® Japanese Snowbell shrubs grow 15-20 feet in height but maintain a more columnar and upright 6-9 feet in width. Fantastic for hedges and mixed-shrub borders where those spring blooms, lush foliage, and winter-interest bark can really play off other bushes and shrubs!
You can easily make the Japanese Snowbell the center of attention by making it the focal point of your landscaping endeavors! Proper placement of this tree next to a porch or patio could also make for a relaxation aid to melt away stress. Grow as a border tree or garden centerpiece, either method will elevate your cottage garden to another level.
Shining in the sun, Snowbells are perfect for sunny front yard gardens and for providing shade around seating areas. The abundance of snow-white blooms also makes this a must-have for the cottage garden and butterfly garden aesthetic. Park a bench or bistro set with an APrystine® Snowbell behind it for scented morning coffee or tranquil evening reading.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
APrystine® Japanese Snowbell does best in full sun. This tree can be particular about its soil, preferring medium moisture, well-drained soil rich in humus and organic matter. Be sure to check the soil's acidity levels too, as this plant thrives in somewhat acidic conditions. Use a pine needle straw or pine bark mulch to help maintain pH and hold in moisture more consistently. Prune when dormant, or give a light pruning immediately after flowering if needed.
- Full Sun
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Enriched, Acidic, Well-Drained Soil
- Prune Late Winter or Very Early Spring
- Virtually Pest & Disease Free
APrystine® Japanese Snowbell will add its glorious spring display, upright growing nature, and unique bark texture to your landscape this year, but only if you hurry and reserve your own at Nature Hills Nursery!
