Apricots love California. 99% of all Apricots for the market in the USA are grown in California. Unfortunately, if you don't live in sun-kissed CA, then you've typically been out-of-luck when it came to growing Apricots in the home garden. Not anymore! Goldcot Apricot Tree (Prunus armeniaca 'Goldcot') laughs at the cold and gray and sneers at the wet and humid!

Goldcot busts out in the spring with white flowers blushed with pink that are followed by medium-sized golden fruit in early August. The fruit is delicious, sweet and juicy, and is great to eat fresh, make into preserves, or dry for use all winter long. For a true Cali treat serve dried apricots and salted pistachios instead of popcorn at your next movie night!

This Apricot variety grows strong and healthy in less-than-perfect conditions. It even handles Great Britain's unpredictable cold and wet! If you live in USDA zone 5-8 and have been afraid to grow an Apricot tree, then fear no more.

Planting and Application:

These lovely flowering trees are great accents and shade around your yard or garden. Perfect for front and back yard landscaping, Goldcots are ideal flowering specimens and edible landscaping plants that will easily replace that simple flowering tree that won't add to your fruit bowl.

The dense branching is a great screening, especially if you leave the lower branches intact. Allowing you easy harvest and privacy when you prune them as hedgerows with other fruit trees for a hedge that feeds you and shelters wildlife and songbirds too! The neighbors won't mind the friendly fence that they can also sneak off with a few of the glowing orange gems too!

  • Loads of Fresh Sweet Fruit
  • No Pollinator Needed
  • Fragrant Pinkish-White Blossoms for Bees
  • Faster Growth
  • Performs in Cold & Humid Climates

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Fruit trees do best in full sun and you'll get more fruit and flowers if you provide at least 6 hours of sun a day. Plant in well-drained soil, and give even moisture to establish. Then, keep it on the drier side after establishment. Check out more Fruit Tree Success Tips in our Blog!

  • Full Sun

Apricot Tree Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for Goldcot Apricot Trees to bear fruit?

Nature Hills Nursery sells fruit trees with mature root systems that are already three to four years old, so you’ll enjoy fruit sooner than you would with younger trees! Expect your young apricot tree (Prunus armeniaca 'Goldcot') to begin fruiting usually by the 2nd-4th year after you plant them.

How Fast Do Goldcot Apricot Trees Grow?

Once your apricot tree has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.

Where do Goldcot Apricot Trees Grow Best?

Apricot trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more. Provide good air circulation and moderate, yet consistent water. They do need very well-drained soil.

Do You Need 2 Apricot Trees to Produce Fruit?

Many apricot trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one apricot tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time! The Goldcot Apricot Tree is self-pollinating and doesn't need a pollinator to produce fruit.

Apricot trees that need a pollinator partner will have the appropriate tree(s) listed for you to choose from. Nature Hills Nursery lists pollinators for each tree on the product pages. This gives you must-have information right at your fingertips!

No room? Look into High-Density Planting techniques, or choose a semi-dwarf or dwarf fruit tree.

When Should Goldcot Apricot Tree be Planted?

Bareroot apricot trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown apricot trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.

  • Plant bareroot apricot trees in the early spring.
  • Plant container-grown trees anytime the ground is not frozen by digging a hole as deep as the soil line and twice as wide.
