Need an ornamental yet vigorous groundcover? The Burgundy Glow Bugleweed (Ajuga reptans 'Burgundy Glow') is just the decorative low-growing perennial you need! Ajuga is an herbaceous perennial groundcover with showy, short spikes of lovely blue flowers each spring! Not only is the foliage colorful but this Mint family relative has aromatic foliage that deters deer and rabbits!

Your Burgundy Glow Ajuga is superior compared to other ornamental Bugelweed! In fact, it's one of the most popular mat-forming flowering plants available with its striking mounds of leaves dappled in shades of green, pink, and cream! As a bonus, the 6-inch spikes of blue flowers appear in late spring and attract butterflies and hummingbirds to their delicate beauty.

During the wintertime, Burgundy Glow Ajuga keeps the show going as it transitions to a rich bronze with burgundy tones, even remaining semi-evergreen in warm growing zones! Hardy perennials throughout an insanely wide range of climates, Burgundy Glow can grow from USDA zone 3 up to zone 10! Barely reaching 6 inches tall when in bloom, the tri-colored variegated foliage spreads 12-18 inches wide but can root and naturalize further when allowed!

Landscape Application:

Plant several Burgundy Glow Ajuga in places where you could use some filler but have difficulty establishing plantings! This includes that stubborn patch of lawn that won't take. Handing some shade, Bugleweed works as a lawn replacement when you want something other than green carpeting your spaces! They even tolerate light foot traffic!

Place a few beneath the understory of shrubs and trees, rambling around shrubs and perennials to fill bare ground without climbing into their neighbors, or spilling over the tops of retaining walls! Great as edging, colorful front of the garden borders, or simply adding its beauty to your Rock Gardens and dry slopes or anywhere you could use a vigorous, ornamental touch!

Easy and fast mass plantings, Burgundy Glow Ajuga is also great for preventing erosion on slopes and can be used as filler and spillers in containers and mixed planters! Burgundy Glow Ajuga is relatively carefree, deer-resistant, and even a low allergen!

  • Gorgeous Tri-Colored Foliage
  • Beautiful Blue Short Flower Spikes
  • Burgundy Tone In Fall
  • Pollinator Friendly Groundcover
  • Edging, Borders, Container Filler, Erosion Control & Easy En Masse

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Burgundy Glow Ajuga will do best in a partly shaded area, but will also adapt to the morning sun (in which the foliage colors will be even more vivid). These perennials prefer moist soil with good drainage but will also tolerate moderately dry areas once established. Any well-drained area is best and new plantings appreciate a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch - especially in hotter climates, drier soil conditions, and higher sun locations.

When the plants are done blooming, prune off the spent blooms to keep the foliage looking pristine. Remember that Ajuga varieties will spread out in all directions. In early spring, pick off any damaged leaves or lightly rake any damaged parts just as they begin to grow. Divide clumps to keep healthy and vigorous.

  • Partly Sunny & Partly Shaded Locations
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture to Low Once Established
  • Deadhead After Flowering & Clean Mounds Early Spring
  • Low Maintenance Deer-Resistant Plant
  • Pest & Insect-Resistant

If you are looking for a colorful perennial flowering groundcover that will excel in hard-to-grow areas, Burgundy Glow Ajuga is the way to go! Order now at NatureHills.com!

Groundcover

I have the Burgundy Glow Ajuga planted under my Purple Leaf Sand Cherry tree. It has filled in nicely and is a perfect ground cover plant. It adds another dimension to my landscape.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Burgundy Glow Ajuga! We’re delighted to hear that it’s thriving under your Purple Leaf Sand Cherry tree and fitting perfectly as a ground cover in your landscape. Ajuga is such a wonderful choice for adding texture and color, and it’s great that it’s already bringing another lovely dimension to your garden.

Deer resistant

So far, the darn deer have not bothered my Ajuga. They seem to get most of my other plants and small trees.

Hello BennyBPH,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Burgundy Glow Ajuga! We're delighted to hear that the deer have left this plant alone while bothering some of your other greenery. Ajuga’s reputation for being deer resistant certainly makes it a great addition to gardens in areas where deer are a frequent visitor.

If you’re looking for more deer-resistant plant options to help deflect their browsing from your other plants and small trees, we’d be happy to suggest some varieties like lavender, yarrow, or certain hydrangeas that are also less appealing to deer.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like care tips for your Ajuga or recommendations to safeguard your other plants from deer. We’re here to support your gardening journey every step of the way!

Rooting for your garden’s success,

Deer resistant

So far, the darn deer have not bothered my Ajuga. They seem to get most of my other plants and small trees.

Hi Benny B.,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Burgundy Glow Ajuga! We’re thrilled to hear the deer have steered clear of your Ajuga while bothering other plants. This variety is known for its deer-resistant qualities, so it sounds like it’s doing its job well in your garden.

If you ever want to enhance your deer protection even further, you might consider adding complementary plants that deter deer, like lavender or boxwood, around the area. Also, keeping walkways clear and using natural deterrents could help shield your other treasured trees and plants.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about protecting your garden — we’re always happy to help!
