Aromatic and colorful the light and airy blooms of Tango Hyssop (Agastache aurantiaca 'Tango') are the vibrant flowering perennial that your garden needs today! Gorgeous peachy oranges, deep orangy reds, dusky purple, and deep rosy pinks that stand atop mounds of green, herbal-scented foliage!
There's a good reason that Hyssops are also known as Hummingbird Mints! Not just butterflies and bees, but hummingbirds too, flock to these tall flower spikes that are full of long tubular flowers! A vivid array of pinkish-purple buds erupt into those tubular petals that are a mix of light and dark orange, peachy hues, and reddish tones! The mounds of aromatic foliage smell like minty licorice when brushed against or crushed.
Tango Agastache is cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 through 9 and can grow to a mid-sized 14 inches in height when in bloom and can spread to a modest 14-16 inches in width. Hyssop are xeric and deer-resistant herbaceous perennials that thrive in lower moisture locations once established.
Planting and Application:
Hyssop is perfect to use as colorful edging or facer plants, especially when paired with other Hyssop for a range of colors, or mixed among Catmints and Salvia that all have similar forms and long-lasting blooms! Create rows and banks of bright color en masse anywhere in the sun!
You'll love the waving wands of tropical mixed color that last mid to late-season. Enliven a garden bed or border with juicy blooms that will still be blooming long after many other plants stopped in the summer's heat, or called it quits in the fall.
Partner Tango with other mixed perennials, small shrubs, and Roses as a middle or front-of-the-garden accent that looks great all season long. Don't forget to get one for your Cut Flower border, Sensory garden, or Perennial border garden. Their tough xeric nature makes them perfect additions to the Rock Garden. Melding perfectly with all other flower colors.
It not only looks terrific, but it's also a mainstay for beneficial pollinators and our precious native bee populations, providing them with a vital nectar resource. No Butterfly Garden is complete without an Anise Hyssop and migrating Monarchs and Hummingbirds get their fill of good nectar for the trip!
The ideal size for planters on your porch and around a mailbox planting to add juicy color that calls attention! Sunny blooms that won’t quit just sing in pots around a balcony - plus you can enjoy brushing past that wonderful scent! That same mounded growth makes Tango dance beautifully in pots and containers as a spiller and filler - plus that fantastic burst of color!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Agastache are low-maintenance clumping perennial plants, perfect for a very bright and sunny location, doing best in full sun. They appreciate very well-drained soils, and the drying power of the morning sun to keep the scented foliage healthy and mildew-free! Deadhead to encourage rebloom and keep the plant neat and tidy. Prune back the stems in late fall, mulch the crown well, and water in well for the winter.
Thriving in drier soil once established, Hyssop can be highly drought-tolerant, but you'll get the best performance with a regular schedule of supplemental water. Although this plant does well in thin, poor soil, protect your investment and encourage healthy roots by using Nature Hills Root Booster at planting time to help your plant uptake nutrients in the soil more efficiently.
- Loves Full Sun
- Best in Very Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Once Established
- Widely Adaptable
- Rarely Damaged by Deer
