One of the best yellow varieties for adding carefree color to your space is Prima Angelina Sedum (Sedum rupestre 'Prima Angelina'). These sweet and sassy succulents stay petite, but punch up the visual interest wherever they are used.

The round-tipped clusters of stiff little leaves shine in the sun. Compact Prima Angelina stays golden-yellow until the nights start getting cooler. Then it turns up the volume with an orange overtone for fall color! Don't be surprised to see the cheery yellow foliage peeking out from a covering of snow in wintertime. We told you … these plants are tough as nails!

It's no matter if you are a Master Gardener or are just getting started. Prima Angelina makes it easy-peasy. There is a reason they nicknamed Sedum "Stonecrop", after all. Enjoy the bold color of these small yet very striking plants. You'll make your neighbors jealous!

In some climates, you'll enjoy seeing the clusters of star-shaped bright yellow blooms in the late summer or fall! The beneficial pollinators go crazy for these blossoms! But usually, Prima Angelina is a reliable foliage plant with striking lemony hues!

Like its big sister Angelina Sedum, and little sister SunSparkler® Angelina's Teacup Sedum, Prima Angelina is the elegant middle child! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9, this darling grows just 3-6 inches tall when in bloom and spreads 6 to 10 inches wide!

Planting and Application:

Suppress weeds along the edge of your garden beds. Grow several together to form a carpet of brilliant color. You'll adore the funky form of these tiny, ground-hugging hardy Creeping Sedum. Wait until you see how much easier it is to keep weeds at bay!

Do you love color and hate weeds? Want a layered look in your garden? Maybe you need to soften a Rock Garden, or flagstone garden path? Or perhaps you're just looking for a cute 'spiller' for your container garden? Then you need a Prima Angelina Sedum!

This is a great choice for beds and borders and the blooms make excellent cut flowers! Sun Gardens, Perennial beds and Pollinator gardens are fantastic sites for clumps or vibrant green groundcover. Create a "ribbon" of color by repeating Prima Angelina Sedum in your garden borders. You'll draw the eye and bring a smile!

Allow them to drape over the sides and tops of retaining walls. Use this same technique in your seasonal outdoor pots. Just tuck these space-savers in as "Spillers" around the edge of your pot. Edge beds and borders or allow Angelina to creep and ramble throughout rock paths and between stepping stones.

For a mass planting, space them four inches apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. These readily naturalize large sunny areas when given the opportunity. Use them in your defensible spaces when planning fire-wise landscaping. Add them to gravelly slopes and at the base of boulders. They'll soften up the roughest terrain with a charm all of their own. Fill dry and rocky soil and tricky areas quickly with these xeriscaping plants. That sun-baked hell strip along the road, driveway, or street. Their tolerance of heat and sun, plus their thick root system makes Groundcover Stonecrops ideal for erosion control and filling hard-to-mow hillsides when planted en masse!

Make a friend smile with a curated succulent container for her patio. Gardening is an exercise in the details and Sedum are perfect for the beginner gardener! Give yourself and your guests a happy surprise at ground level. They hold a real fascination for children. Create an elevated garden bed with a spot to sit and study them. You'll ignite their imagination!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The needs of this durable perennial Sedum groundcover are blissfully simple!

Plant Prima Angelina Stonecrop only in full sun. They need at least six hours of bright sunshine a day to remain strongly colored and densely bunched. Don't overfeed this perennial and you actually want to avoid overwatering them. Keep the soil sharply drained and poor for best results. Even in thin, poor, rocky soil; these self-reliant plants will perform beautifully for you, year after year. Have rich garden soil? It's okay, they'll still be fine. Just add a few handfuls of sand or gravel while planting. Or...create a raised planting bed, if you need to improve your drainage.

So, these sturdy plants become fairly water-wise, but only after their roots are established in your soil. Give them regular water for the first year in your landscape. We recommend that you protect your investment with water during an extended drought. Container plants need a regular schedule of supplemental water, as well. Both in-ground and container plants appreciate a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch to keep their roots cool.

Do a light clean-up in early spring to remove last year's leaves. If they are spilling over the sidewalk, it's a simple snip-snip to keep them in check, if needed. Divide every few years to maintain the clumps' vigor - then give some to a friend to brighten their day too!

  • Very Easy-Care in Full Sun
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
  • Tolerates Sharpy Drained Soils Of Any Type
  • Prune in Early Spring
  • Cold Hardy, Heat & Drought Tolerant, Deer Don't Prefer the Taste
