Huge, Fragrant Blooms On An Updated Classic - Karl Rosenfield Peony
Can you imagine a shrub covered in giant, fluffy pom-poms of bright, gleaming scarlet? Brilliant red blooms lofted above deep green foliage on sturdy stems? Or these gently swaying in an afternoon breeze and emitting a sweet perfume to draw you in for a closer look?
This, and more, is what you will experience when you plant a Karl Rosenfield Peony in your garden this year. Karl Rosenfield is a traditional, old-world Peony, reinvented as a new and improved hybrid! Still with the classic double bloom that many think of when envisioning a Peony.
Karl Rosenfield Peony (Paeonia 'Karl Rosenfield') features stunning red, double flowers that are nearly 8 inches across! Each gorgeous bloom begins its display in mid-to-late spring and includes a subtle hint of yellow at its center for a touch of glowing splendor from within.
The color is certainly eye-catching! Old-fashioned Peony choices almost seem humdrum in comparison to the richly saturated, ruby-red of Karl Rosenfield!
Cut a few for your dining room table and you'll enjoy their beauty and fragrance inside as well as out Each impressive bloom lasts over a week when cut as a fresh bud just showing its color. A bouquet will perfume the entire room! Float a single large bloom in a bowl at your bedside to perfume your dreams!
Your wildlife will just adore Karl Rosenfield, but to deer and rabbits, it holds very little interest, though we can't vouch that your neighbors won't stop by to smell the heavenly blooms!
Karl Rosenfield's lush, dark-green foliage is a lively backdrop for other plants in the early summer garden even after the spring bloom has finished! The Karl Rosenfield is a herbaceous perennial shrub that has an upright nature with erect, strong stems to hold its spring bloom aloft.
It's a hardy perennial that's easy to care for, virtually pest-free and maintenance-free, growing throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8 with ease.
How to Use Karl Rosenfield Peony In The Landscape
Plant one of these as a focal point and accent plant anywhere in your yard for a brilliant splash of spring color, or use several as a decorative border, beckoning visitors along your garden path!
Plant Peonies in long rows to highlight a fence line, or in blocks to create an impressive center of attention. Karl Rosenfield looks amazing as a specimen plant or intermixed among other perennials in cutting gardens, Rock Gardens, and mixed Perennial beds, both formal and informal alike!
No old-fashioned English border or Cottage garden is complete without the flouncy blooms brightening the area each spring! Don't forget to plant a few additional plants so you can bring armloads of these vibrant, fragrant blooms indoors to enjoy! Peonies have long been the top choice for florists and spring weddings!
Because of the mid-season bloom time, you can extend your spring display by planting Karl Rosenfield with other earlier and later blooming Peonies for a longer display of blooms!
Pairing wonderfully with wildflowers, herbs, and perennials of all sorts! Peony also looks wondrous among the rose garden as it gears up for its own show, while the foliage shades your spent spring bulbs as they finish their displays for the year.

#ProPlantTips For Care
Growing Peonies is a breeze! Performing best in full sun is best to really make the blooms and foliage shine! Karl Rosenfield especially is adaptable to a wide variety of soil types however, Peony root systems will always need well-drained soil.
Extremely cold tolerant, northern gardeners to cold hardiness zones of 4 and up will be delighted to know how tough this plant is! However, even warmer growing zones up to 8 will get to enjoy these luxurious blooms!
Karl Rosenfield does best without sun and nutrient competition, so avoid planting too close to larger shrubs and trees.
Forming a neat and lush clump that won't stray from where it is planted, there will be no need to divide these plants. Like all Peony, it will benefit from support if your area tends to have strong amounts of summer rainfall.
This long-lived herbaceous perennial is quite easy to care for. As the blooms fade, cut off the old flowers leaving the foliage in place to make food for next year. Then in fall after the frost kills off the foliage, cut all of the stems down to the ground and remove all of the debris to prevent overwintering fungus spores for next year to help keep your plants clean and healthy.
