Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Romantic and whimsical, the pastel pink Squamigera Lycoris (Lycoris 'Squamigera') is a variety of Spider Lily with big pompoms of softly-hued blooms with a lavender iridescent sheen that seems to magically pop out of the ground when you least expect it!

The strappy long green leaves form lush fountains in the spring and summer months then vanish like most bulbs. But then… Surprise! Tall stems with a crown of long-petalled pink trumpet-shaped blooms that are fragrant and super showy! Seeming to appear out of nowhere around August to September, it's no wonder why they've earned the common names Pink Magic Lily, Surprise Lily, Resurrection Lily, and Naked Ladies!

These balloon-sized blooms are magical in their own right. These large trumpet-shaped blooms have six broad and reflexed petals that often have accents of purple and lavender and honey-yellow throats. Each umbel typically produces several blooms that reach outwards in a radiant crown. And if the sun hits them just right, you can see their golden throats glowing from the inside out. Perfect for your bees, butterflies and Hummingbirds to stop by for a visit!

The name Lycoris references a minor Greek goddess, and Squamigera means "bearing scales," referring to the small scales that give the flower an iridescent sheen! Heat and humidity throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 10, but hardy perennials in zones 7-10, Magic Lilies can grow to 2 feet when in bloom! These are considered fall-planted bulbs in Hardiness Zones 6-10 despite flowering in the late summer.

Landscape Application:

This lovely plant can be the star of the show as a specimen or used as a background in your garden bed. It also pairs well with unique assistants, tall architectural flowering bulbs and plants, both tropical plants or wildlfowers, and among showy foliage plants! Pair with other unique colored flowers like blues, wines, maroon, and silver.

Squamigera Magic Lilies bring a tropical feel to Cottage gardens and around seating areas, mixing happily among your perennials and flowering shrubs when not in bloom, then by late summer - they're stealing the show!

Able to be dressed up or dressed down, these lovely pink blooms have just the right amount of showy and girl next door! Plant in orderly rows along pathways where the fountains of foliage become great edging, in winding ribbons throughout the front to middle areas of your landscaping beds, or in evenly spaced groupings in a formal Rock garden.

For a more informal effect, adding random bulbs throughout your Rose gardens and other perennial bulb borders, cut flower gardens, and poolside seating areas, always brings an unexpected shock of pastel color when you least expect it! Plus pretty flowers for bouquets or thrillers in high-end-looking floral arrangements!

In marginal growing zones and warm climates alike, Squamigera work in containers and large planters! Either use these Amaryllis family relatives in annual container displays on your front porch, as seasonal accent planters around your outdoor entertaining areas (and treated like Canna Lily or Dahlia and brought into an above-freezing location for the winter), or as permanent container thrillers in frost-free growing zones!

  • Big Umbels of Trumpet-Shaped Soft Pink Flowers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5-10, Spider Lily Lycoris flowering stems can reach up to 18 inches tall. They thrive in full sun or partial shade and moist, enriched soil that drains well. Fast-growing, they love mulched beds but also won't mind drying out a bit between waterings.

Once the flower heads fade, go ahead and deadhead them to the ground. Once the foliage yellows, trim it back and remove it from the area. Because of this perennial bulb's unique lifecycle, place a marker in your soil so you know where to expect the foliage and flowers throughout the season - unless you like surprises!

Magic Lilies grow well as perennials in warmer zones. In other regions, they cannot handle the cold. No matter where you're located, you can enjoy these magical beauties in containers or as annuals. Give these bulbs extra protection in the winter with an extra layer of mulch and/or compost over their planting area for insulation. In marginal areas of USDA zone 6 and lower, you can lift the bulbs before winter and store them in an area that won't freeze.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade Locations
  • Needs Well-Drained Soil

  • Deadhead After Flowers Fade & Prune Foliage Away Once Yellow

  • Deer & Rabbits Seldom Bother With These
