Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Cold-hardy fruiting vines with pretty features and delicious benefits, the Arctic Beauty Female Kiwi Vine (Actinidia kolomikta) is a great climbing plant that has a lot of appeal! This vine is beloved for its heart-shaped foliage which emerges purple before maturing to bright green marked with splashes of white and pink!

The female Arctic Beauty Hardy Kiwi pairs with the Arctic Beauty Male Kiwi Vine to produce fruit, but both produce unique white flowers in the early spring that are fragrant. Despite being fairly inconspicuous since they are often hidden by the foliage, the bees and butterflies go gaga for them!

The Arctic Beauty Female Kiwi will not have fruit unless you have other cultivars or more than three plants - it's a hit-and-miss to find out in a few years if you have male or female plants. Luckily, Nature Hills sells the Male Arctic Beauty Vine! One male Hardy Kiwi Vine will pollinate 6 female plants when planted nearby, and by autumn, greenish-yellow, 1-inch long, edible fruits appear on the female vines! These grape-like berries are fuzz-less and are sweet and flavorful!

A native of Russia, Arctic Beauty produces a smaller fruit with all the great flavor of its bigger cousins! Arctic Beauty is the hardiest of all the Kiwi species, handling winters down to USDA planting zones 4 and heat-tolerant up to zone 8, these fruiting vines are fast-growing and not bothered by pests or diseases!

Landscape Application:

A pretty variegated vine like this is perfect for vertical gardening, space-saving edible landscaping, or just covering a fence, arbor, or trellis in tri-colored foliage! Create easy shade and privacy by training the Arctic Beauty Kiwi Vine over a pergola or let it climb up your stair railing!

This species is dioecious, which means that you need separate male and female plants. The male plants reportedly have better leaf variegation than the female plants. Mix in a male Kiwi Vine among groupings of female Arctic Beauty and enjoy ornamental shade plus tasty fruit too!

Kids love the bite-sized sweet fruit, so make them a teepee-style backyard hideaway out of poles, or train a few Arctic Beauty over their play area to create a tunnel or shaded hideout that has healthy fruit in the fall!

These vines can grow to 15 feet, and provide great texture, color, and add a wonderful appearance to any landscape!

  • Fragrant Inconspicuous White Flowers In Early Spring
  • Gorgeous Purple New Growth Ages Green, White & Pink Variegated
  • Fast-Growing Vigorous Climbing Vine With Heart-Shaped Leaves
  • Fruiting Just 1-2 Years After Planting
  • Sweet & Flavorful Edible Grape-Sized Bright Green Fruit
  • Ornamental Fruiting Vine For Arbors, Trellis & Vertical Gardening

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Arctic Beauty is a fast-growing climbing vine that prefers full sun in a protected area, or partial shade in hotter climates. Plant in about any type of rich, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter and provide regular applications of water throughout the growing season. All plants appreciate a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to insulate the roots and hold moisture in more consistently.

Train your Kiwi Vine by tying up branches to encourage them the way you want them to grow. Prune Hardy Kiwi Vines in the late winter or very early spring before you see new growth emerging. Feed a fruiting plant fertilizer according to package directions. You can plant male and female Kiwi Vines together using high-density planting techniques if space is limited.

An overly vigorous grower, in some states, they are potentially invasive but NatureHills.com uses Plant Sentry™ to block the sale and shipment of problem plants and pests into sensitive areas.

  • Full Sun or Some Partial Shade
  • Enriched Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs & Appreciates Mulched Beds
  • Prune In Late Winter or Early Spring Before New Growth Emerges
  • Less Invasive Than Other Kiwi Cultivars
