Planting and Application:

Blue Angel will add color and texture to any shady area of your garden! An outstanding specimen plant, covering a 3-4 foot wide area of the garden with amazingly impressive leaves! Like all Hosta, it is most at home in shady, woodland settings and works well as an accent or edging plant, or groundcover!

Perfect for shady Asian and Zen-inspired gardens, blue-leaved Hostas lend a cool and calming presence to areas for meditation and relaxation. In fact, nearly any garden design looks more peaceful with a few Hosta! Contemporary plantings and informal cottage gardens alike benefit from these large perennials and other shade-loving plants. Borders look divine with long rows of Hosta skirting and tidying up their edges. So will your driveway and walkways, and shady paths.

Skirting trees with these lovely perennials will equally benefit from the generous shade the trees provide. Large shrubs too will look immensely better having their bare stems hidden from view without the worry about roots interfering with each other!

Large planters and containers in the dappled shade around your patio or even a shaded balcony will benefit from the graceful presence of these impressive plants. The cool coloration and eye-catching growth will decorate garden rooms with sculptural decor.

Pollinator gardens and your Cottage gardens will get a traditional look with the addition of a few of these curious perennials! Fringe shady hardscapes and ring pergola or gazebos in cool, calming foliage and add that finishing touch to the front of your foundation plantings.

This low-care perennial is ideal for shady planters, tubs, and patio pots, and is one of the most popular landscape plants. These are also amazing for balcony and container gardeners who don't have much space and still want these lovely perennials!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Blue Angel's big blue-green leaves emerge in early spring and burst out of the ground, ready to sparkle in the morning sun! Hardy in USDA growing zones 3 through 9 are very cold hardy perennials. Highly filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for lush, healthy growth. The morning sun is tolerable and helps to intensify the leaf colors, but the hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to Hostas!

Highly resistant to heat and humidity long as they're given adequate shade and moisture, especially throughout the hottest part of the growing season. Tolerant of dry shade once established, these become incredibly resilient perennials! Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soils that are highly organic. Preferring a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch chips helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

Low maintenance and easy care, there's not much work for you! Once frosts arrive, Hosta is an herbaceous perennial that dies back to the ground and emerges again in early spring. Be sure to remove dead leaf matter from the area to prevent the spread of fungal issues and deter slugs. But it has excellent slug resistance and no disease issues!

  • Tolerates Part Shade to Full Shade
  • Moderate to Moisture Loving Plant
